2" flywheel in well made metal frame. The trick is the same as it has been for 100 years. Wind the string through the spindle, pull it firmly to set the flywheel spinning, and perform effortless balancing magic on pencil tips, string tightropes, and the like. We tend to forget that bicycles and aircraft navigation both rely heavily on gyroscopic principles. It's never too early to tell the kids. Besides, it's fun.

These Here Are Our Top Tops
Takes a lot more than a little spinning to take a top to the top these days. Ours have red and blue LEDs embedded inside, so they're a miniature electronic light show. Powered by (3) replaceable button-cell batteries, they measure 1-5/8" dia x 1-3/8" tall, including the stem. Yours will have clear tops with red, green or yellow bottoms. We'll pick.

These Are Tops In Our Book
These are not only tops in our book, but there are a dozen of them. Plastic tops, approx 3" dia, with assorted diffraction grating patterns on top. Discs with very short axes, they cling close to the surface of whatever they're spinning on, which is cool. Safety-tested to be free of lead and other nasty stuff.

The 2-3/4" tall x 2" dia gyro is metal and plastic, with a small plastic stunt stand, and will continue to balance intriguingly, even If you somehow manage to wear out the LED's non-replaceable batteries. You get a trio of 1-3/4" dia x approx 2-5/8" tall plastic tops in assorted colors, with the American Science & Surplus logo on the disc. The tops of the tops have a vaguely Constantinopolitan shape, and are a different color from the bottom. Just one more dazzling detail from Jarvis.
