Makes us nuts, sitting around waiting fifty, sixty thousand years for the fossils to harden. So we got this clear plastic fossil mold 8-1/2" x 10-1/2" OA to make replicas of ammonite, chirostenotes' claw, trilobite, king crab and gryodus. You can create detailed plaster-of-Paris models 3" to 3-1/2" dia, but we'd give the kids a break and use chocolate or Jell-O", because nothing makes paleontology more fun than eating the fossil record.

This is one slick motorized solar system and planetarium from Educational Insights®. Make assembling it an educational exercise. Demonstrate how the planets circle the sun. The 4" dia sun is yellow plastic, lit with a krypton bulb. The planets are colored, reasonably proportional given their actual sizes, and marked with their symbols. They ride on black metal arms that disappear in the dark. The helpful instruction manual suggests activities, and includes a heliocentric longitude chart. Use it with the degree markings on the black-plastic base to show the positions of the planets on different dates. Replace the top half of the sun with the clear dome imprinted with labeled Northern-hemisphere constellations, and project them onto the walls and ceiling of your darkened classroom. About 9" high, with Pluto extending 15" from the center, and the other planets hanging out in their respective order. Comes with an AC adapter, but not with the (4) "C" batteries it needs. For grades 3 and up, and not for kids under three years of age. (Do you want to have to tell an E.R. nurse he ate Uranus?)

Decidedly clever little gizmo, reminiscent of our ever popular Tornado Tube. It consists of a plastic sleeve into which one screws two empty 2-liter soda bottles. Inserted into this connecting tube are two clear plastic "straws", one extending toward the bottom of each bottle. Fill one bottle 3/4 full of water, colored if you like, invert the duo, and watch water spew from the top end of the top "straw". It's all because of the vacuum created as water drains from one bottle to the other, and is a good physics demonstration item. But it looks as though the water defies gravity. Amaze everyone at your next party! Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a "Tornado Tube".

That's one of our favorite songs here at the home office--as sung by Audrey II, that lovely but terribly misunderstood houseplant with a taste for protein in Little Shop of Horrors. And now you can start your own family of Audreys III, IV and more with Carnivorous Creations". The kit comes with seeds for the Venus Flytrap, Cobra Plant, Yellow Trumpet, Hooded Pitcher Plant, Sweet Trumpet, Pale Trumpet, Purple Pitcher Plant, and three types of Drosera--happy little carnivores, every one. You'll get a mix of (30) to (40) of the above seeds, 1/2 lb of peat moss, the 7-1/4" x 9" dia clear-plastic decagon terrarium, plus some tiny blue rocks, decals, and rubber crawlies. Very complete instructions are included, and you can expect to wait between (4) weeks and couple of months to see the insect eaters sprout. No mention of whether these can carry a tune.
