More exciting than an ant colony! Prettier than tadpoles and frogs. The principle of this kit is the same as both. Buy the kit which consists of a growing/viewing chamber, food, and instructions. Send in the coupon (plus a small shipping charge) and receive (5) larvae and their food. In about (10) days the larvae will turn to chrysids and in another (7-10) days your beautifully marked butterflies will emerge from the chrysids. Truly entrancing and educational with extensive well written instructions/explanations of the phenomena you are observing. Highly recommended.

Ant farming has been reborn since NASA got interested in insectaries and Fascinations® started manufacturing AntWorks". What used to be a dark, earthen ant farm is now a curvilinear plastic habitat containing gel the color of a Caribbean dive site. The clear turquoise gel is the food, water and housing medium of the insects, which you may capture locally, or order via mail. We ordered ours, the better to avoid militant army or fire ants or feuding factions, and it worked out just fine. The ants dig relentlessly for weeks, and you can easily observe them constructing and connecting a maze of tunnels. It's utterly fascinating. The 6" x 5-1/2" x 1-1/4" thick space-age habitat comes with an educational booklet, simple instructions (there's practically nothing to do), the address of the ant dealer -- and a tight lid.

Cases for mounting butterflies, bugs, rocks, fossils or any other three dimensional collectibles. Known as Riker mounts, these are sturdy cardboard boxes 7/8" deep, with glass glued into the front cover for viewing. They are filled with a fairly firm, white, expanded, synthetic, cotton–like material. The cushiony filler holds the three–dimensional viewee in place without pins or glue. Very handy for the proud trophy hunter. Our smaller is 8” x 12” and the larger 12” x 16–1/2”.

That's for entymological pins if you're not in the business of mounting butterflies and their little friends, but these black enameled pins are longer, stronger and thinner than regular straight pins, and are used widely by artists, galleries, lace-makers, surgeons, taxidermists and other folks with a need for ultra-thin, coated pins. These are size #0, 38mm (approx 1-1/2") long x 0.35 mm (.0137 in) dia. Available in packages of (20) or purchase (100) at a discounted price.
