Finally, a new way to grow your offspring. Soak the little (egg-sized) egg in water for a couple of days and a 4" tall, naked rubber baby will crack the shell and hatch. Some people might think it's just the tiniest bit creepy, but we think it makes a nice change from hatching dinosaurs.

Nothing quite says pure Bavarian goofiness like a nice pair of hopping lederhosen. There's no actual Bavarian inside, you understand, just the (literally) stand-alone, peripatetic pants. Wind them up, watch them hop around the desk or the brauhaus tabletop. The "happy sort of short trouser" stands 3-1/2" tall, with suspenders. Unterhalten, ya?

Clown around in the tub or pool with Nicky, our remote-control clownfish that's as active as any clownfish in a tropical tank. The maker says that the 3-1/8" long orange or blue fish can go backward or forward, up or down, left or right, for over two hours, powered by (1) "AAA" battery. The vaguely cat-faced controller has a range of about 10 feet and needs (2) "AAA"s. (None of the batteries are included.) Very fun!

Pressed-foam butterflies with printed details and 6" wingspans come in assorted butterfly colors. In theory, and with minimal assembly, they're toy gliders. In reality, they make exceptionally pretty mobiles, table decorations, etc. Start with a package of (10).

and call us in the morning. Better yet, take (4) of these white-plastic aspirin-shaped yo-yos and call us whenever you like. Our oversized reciprocating analgesic tablet toys are 2-1/4" dia x 1-1/4" thick with 3-1/2-foot strings.

You just hate out-of-control balloons flying helter skelter all over the place, going braaaaaaaap and scaring your grandmother? But you still want to launch balloons, indoors and outdoors? You need The Mighty Balloon Rocket. You'll get a pair 3-1/8" long foam rockets on 5" straws with rubber washers for balance, plus (3) starter balloons. Includes useful folksy instructions from someone who's clearly spent many hours perfecting unmanned balloon rocket flight. Lots of little parts, so best keep it away from the munchkins.

These radio controlled little-big-rigs are about 1:55 scale (3-3/8" long) and maneuver just like the road warriors, but on a kitchen table. We think they're the smallest working truck tractors in captivity. Each includes an internal rechargeable battery pack (recharges in under a minute). You add (3) "AA" batteries for the controller. We'll pick from assorted colors, and the pack of (2) will have different frequencies so they can race and crash into each other, because what fun are they otherwise?

…but other cars in this collection feature graphics of Mickey, Tigger, Daisy and assorted other Disney figures. The dozen different toy cars, die-cast metal with plastic tires, are approx 4" long at 1:43 scale. They include the Dodge Viper GTS, Mercedes 190E, VWs, Fiats, Lamborghini Countach and Porsche 959 among others. Assorted colors. For the bigger boys on your list (and please don't tell the Mouse we suggested this) those cartoon characters peel right off with nothing more than a little fingernail help, revealing solid-colored car models. Made in Italy by Burago. We pick (3) different ones for you.

The manufacturer calls these "Crazy Gliders," but they don't glide so much as they lurch. We know lurching, and these are nice lurchers. Lurch and wander all over the floor in an amusing, nearly unstoppable, random search for…something. You get a battery-powered (a single "AA" that you add) off-center 3-1/8" motorized plastic ball that you stick under a lightweight 7-1/2" plastic eyeball or human brain shell. Add a cat and the fun is just beginning. The brain would also make a nice mold for gelatin treats, and the eyeball is worth sticking on, well, anything you want to keep an eye on. Or stick the little ball under a baseball cap, or anything else lightweight, and make your own fun.

But definitely keepers. Wind-up fish, approx 3" long, will stand up on suction cups and desperately wiggle their tails and rotate while trying to swim through the air, or you can pull off the cups and watch them circle counterclockwise in water with their dorsal fins breaking the surface. Quite Jaws-like. We'll pick (2) different Aquatic Wind Ups" from our school of rainbow and brown trout, peacock and large-mouth bass, bitterling, dusky green and lavender gibel carp, angelfish, and fantail goldfish in red and white, red and silver, and red and gold.

This is a plastic version of the gray spring toy that rhymes with stinky, but it's twice as tall, many times longer, and a gazillion times more colorful. Ours is 3" in dia x 5" tall and runs through the spectrum twice before it's done, which is pretty near forever. It stretched the length of our office, maybe 35 feet, and still had more to give, which makes us think that aside from its toy potential, it'd make a honey of a party decoration, like an indestructible crepe paper streamer. Get a few of them and your festive adornment needs are met forever.
