The manufacturer says he'll get "ginormous," which is just the way we like our grow-toy lizards. This sleepy-eyed rubbery guy starts out a modest 12" long, tail included, but a few days in a tub of water, pool, or large cooler gets you a three-foot, red, yellow, blue and green guy that we think looks just like the "graceful chameleon" (chameleo gracilis), except large enough to eat small Asian cities. Shrinks to a convenient pocket size when back on dry land (assuming you have large pockets and a lot of time).

The inside-out yo-yo. (Only the unimaginative call this a butterfly yo-yo.) It's red, it's plastic, it's 2-1/4" dia, it's on a 30" cord, and it goes up and down even though it's inside-out.

Grow your own sea creatures. Big 'uns. These are the best expanding artificial aquatic life we've seen. Little-approx 4" to 5" long-sharks, dolphins, marlins, sea horses, squid and mermaids that grow in all directions-up to 600 percent-if they spend 72 hours in water. Multicolors, with well-defined features. The sort of things someone could toss into a friends' pool while they were gone for the weekend, to see if they have a sense of humor. Take them out of the water (the creatures, not the friends) and they eventually shrink back to pocket-size. We'll pick (2) different ones for you, but we recommend buying in multiples, because sea creatures, you know, travel in schools.

You can't start training too early to handle the big rigs. These RC semi-trailers are minis, extremely cool, and small enough to be radio-controlled stocking stuffers-or to run on the kitchen table. The cabs are approx 3-1/8" long x 1-7/8" tall x 1-3/8" wide; trailers are approx 5-3/8" long x 2" tall x 1-1/4" wide. Controllers have forward/reverse and left/right buttons, take (3) "AAA" batteries (not included), and the recharge time is quick-one to two minutes. You'll get a set of two rigs (for father and son parking competitions?) in different colors and two different frequencies. Trailers and cabs are decorated with removable stickers.

And it's a larger-than-life R/C dragonfly! About triple the size of the largest dragonfly on record, but 10 times bigger than the ones you see around the neighborhood pond. Our radio-controlled buzzer has a 16-1/2" wire-and-cellophane wingspan and a 13" long styrofoam" body, and flies by flapping his big wings. He's stabilized by a small tail rotor (which you won't find on the real thing). The controller runs on (6) "AA" batteries (not included) which also charge the futuristic dragonfly's internal battery. Wings and rotor have continuous variable speed. Range is approx 50 feet and there is a trimmer dial to keep him flying straight. Charges in 20 minutes for 7 minutes of flying time.

Our largest fish egg. Put this standard (chicken-sized) plastic egg in a container of warm water and within 12 hours it will crack open and hatch an attractive, although strangely grinning, orange clown fish which will grow to about 4-1/2" long. The fish shrinks to about half that size when dry, so you keep him in your pocket to clown around with.

Our most seductive tabletop walker...er, make that slitherer. The Sidewinder is a 5-1/4" long, plastic, triple-hinged wind-up snake that does indeed sidewind along surfaces. The fascinating darting (and forked) tongue action is just a bonus. We'll pick one of (6) assorted models and send it along, but we strongly recommend ordering several for lunch-hour snake races. Also recommended for driving cats bananas.

Of the WWII RAF workhorse Spitfire. Our version is an authentic, lightweight, flyable, Battle of Britain model in gray/green camouflage with RAF markings. The polystyrene flyer measures 12-1/2" long with a 14-1/2" wingspan, and requires very minimal assembly. Rubber-band powered, with (2) genuine rubber bands included at no extra charge.

One part at a time. We'll pick (2) different parts from our rubber body part assortment of little hands, feet, brains, hearts, skeletons and eyeballs. Drop them in a glass of water and watch as they grow to (6) times their original size over a few days. Dry 'em out and watch 'em (very slowly) shrink back. Repeat as necessary for your amusement.

This little electronic marvel is for timing your speed and counting laps on "S" scale (1:64) race cars. Think Hot Wheels®. Think Pinewood Derby. Made for Radio Shack as ZipZaps Micro RC", it uses infrared LEDs and sensors to measure speed in ft/min or mph, and records individual lap times for up to 6 laps, calculates total time, and stores the fastest lap time and speed. The main unit shows speed and time on 1-1/8" x 5/8" LCD displays, and has a red indicator light to show that the sensors are aligned. (Sensors will work best in a room that isn't over-lit). Measures (1) car at a time, and takes a total of (2) "AA"s, and (2) "AAA"s.
