A tough little kaleidoscope, 7" long x 1-3/4" dia, in hard-to-destroy tin, painted red and yellow with Curious George® images on it. The kaleido parts inside are bright, multicolored jewel, crystal and star shapes, not monkeys.

A pair of shades with the outer portion of each lens half silvered on the eyeball side. Glance left or right and see behind you. Cool undercover item for the younger sleuth or the dirty old man on the beach who doesn't want to be discovered. Whatever your motive, you need a pair now.

Think of it as a shortcut to learning perspective. This clever 50-sheet pad of white, 7" x 4-1/2" paper has a fine red and blue grid pattern that shows your drawing and doodling in 3-D when you wear the included 3-D glasses. It's our candidate for the why-didn't-I-think-of-that award this year.

You've seen everybody's favorite desk toy. The one that makes you swear you can pick up the coin that's right inside it. Too bad it's really a hologram you're looking at! Now you can own this petite version of the popular "illusion" toy. This one, 6" dia x 2" tall, with a 1-5/8" opening on the top, leaves more money in your wallet and more room on your desktop. And try to touch that little rubber frog that comes with it. It's either enchanting - or enchanted!

Another San Francisco band that didn't make it? Could be, but it's also this clever motorized kaleidoscopic LED toy. Measures 10-1/2" long x 1-9/16" dia. Look inside, hold the power button and watch the light show. Turn the speed dial and watch the lights spin and change like the Fillmore during the Summer of Love. Outside is decorated in a meteor design. Comes with (3) replaceable "AAA" batteries.

Or anything else on your horizon with a very nice kids' Safari® telescope/spotting scope. CJ calls it a toy-that's-not-a-toy, which means that it's a 15X magnification, 35mm dia, 3-draw scope suitable for watching the moon, the fauna if you're in a Safari mood, or the approaching ships if you're in a Master and Commander mood. It's 7-5/8" long when closed, extends to 14" and comes with eyepiece and objective covers. We'll pick one with a red, yellow, green or blue plastic barrel.

From Sun Catcher®, a transparent prismatic sheet, roughly 4-1/4" x 5-1/4", inside an oval frame, roughly 10-3/4" x 8-1/4" with a variety of motifs. We'll pick (1) of (3) diffraction patterns inside (1) of (6) heavy cardboard frames: undersea critters, fairyland, jungle life, a wizard, dolphins or a garden with butterflies and a hummingbird. It will "transform light into an explosion of multiple hues," and who doesn't like that? Comes with a suction cup to mount in your window, and if you're a minimalist you could cut the cool prism out of its frame and we wouldn't tell a soul.

Through our little black-plastic right-angle viewer. It's a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hexagon, and Paul says that if you buy (2) you can see eye-to-eye with yourself, which is a little spooky. Great for a little light spying on the street, and if you find a way to stick it over the lens of a small digital camera, you'll get great candid shots.

Neon strip cardboard spectacles with diffraction gratings as the lenses. You can see the regular world, but all light sources and bright objects appear in multiple rainbow hued images. The effect is a little as though the whole world were a giant hologram. Great stocking stuffer or birthday party item for grade school ages.

Finish it off with das periscope. Perfect for a blue-plastic submarine, our blue-plastic periscope will let you see the destroyers following your bubbles, or, if you're stuck on land, let you look around corners. Our visual aid is 1-3/8" dia, telescopes from 14" long to 10", has a clutch to secure the length and a 1" dia port to look through. Handy for reverse snorkeling, too. (Just think about it, OK?)

A "One gizmo does all" marvel. It really works as a binocular, magnifier/linen tester, and has a signaling mirror, and compass all in a roughly 1-1/2" sq x 3-3/4" long package. The bino eyepieces and objectives fold against the body with the objectives doubling as magnifiers when used alone. The signaling mirror makes a good examining table for bugs and seeds etc and is conveniently located under one of the lenses. It should make a good "going off to camp" gift!
