The Codger's First Carving Set
Don't just sit on the porch, carve something. This starter set includes (6) carving tools (gouges, chisels, V-tool and knife) in a pouch, a sharpening stone, a basic instruction booklet and a 2-1/4" x 2" x 11-1/4" block of basswood. (About enough to make one fat letter opener or (4) very small ducks.) The back of the booklet refers you to websites with more instructions and carving patterns. No keyboard. No batteries. Sunprint® Kit
Sunprints (or cyanotypes, or photograms) are everyone's favorite photo-sensitivity experiment, from third-graders to graphic artists and fine artists. You pick: The Sunprinters are a dozen 3-15/16" square sheets of photosensitive paper, an acrylic backing sheet and instructions. The large Sunprint Kit has (15) sheets of 12" x 7-3/4" photosensitive paper plus a clear acrylic sheet of the same size. Meet a bunch of bead needs with a trio of these kits, each of which has (8) 3/8" dia medium-finish wooden beads and a couple of dozen, give or take, 1/4" alphabet cubes, all bored to slide onto the 27" length of black cord, or the 8" of ball chain. The alphabet cubes are heavy on the vowels and are missing some letters, but with (3) sets the odds are your name is spellable. Or one of your kids' names. Or someone you met that time in Sandusky.

It's Such A Relief To Paint

Let them paint in 3-D with these little raised-plastic reliefs of a dinosaur (either a T-Rex, stegosaurus or triceratops, our choice) or an insect (either a butterfly, dragonfly or bee, our choice). All are 4-1/2" x 2-3/4" and you get (4) little paint pots in yellow, red, blue and black, a basic brush, and a cardboard easel for display. Artistic bonus: the reliefs have a velvet-ish texture, so the result resembles a velvet Elvis, if Elvis had been an insect or a dinosaur.
