Heavy-duty glazed ceramic tiles are good places to put hot things that would damage more vulnerable surfaces. Think lab, workshop, kitchen; think of the coffee mug on your desk. Canadian-made tiles all have speckled, textured surfaces. We’ll choose gray or off-white rectangles. Rectangular size is 3-7/8” x 7-7/8” x 1/2” in assorted colors. Make a serious table-top. Tile the mud-room floor. Get creative in the garden. Make mega-mosaics.

A two-layer foam ring with a sticky side, 4-3/4" OD, 1-1/4" ID, 3-3/16" thick. If the stickum is the bottom, the middle layer is dense black foam and the top is squooshy yellowish foam. Originally part of a hose attachment system, these things might make good bumpers to protect your head and the brick wall from damaging each other when it's pounding time.

It's a roller. It's a grip. It's a bumper. It's a cushion. It's a toy. Threaded onto a chain, it's a really chunky -- but lightweight -- necklace. What it really is, is a spool-shaped cylinder of resilient black foam 2-3/8" long x 2" dia at the outside edges and 1-1/2" dia in the middle, with a 1" bore and limitless possibilities. We'll send a pack of (4) for starters.

Like playing tennis without a net, these will let you play existential dominoes: no dots, so each one is the Platonic ideal of a domino, and every move you make is both right and wrong simultaneously. OK, they're (108) little wooden blocks, 2" x 1" x 3/8" thick white pine, that were meant to be dominoes but quit before the dots were painted on. Fun for child's play, of course, but also useful for woodworker's projects like inlays, marquetry, parquetry, or small end-cut cutting boards. Or, if you're unimaginative, you could just make a domino set.
