Who knew they made special measuring tapes for nautical charts? We landlubbers didn't know you could get this retractable metal tape in a 2" x 2" x 3/4" plastic case. That it would measure up to 79"/200cm on one side, and have (3) different nautical scales on the reverse side -- 1: 80,000, 1:40,000 and 1:20,000, with the first mile of each in 1/4- and 1/2-mile increments. Or that the tape would come with a wall bracket and mounting screws to hold it so it didn't slide off the chart table in heavy seas. Who knew? Oh, you and everyone else?

And it'll talk to you. If Bill Gates had been a carpenter, this would have been invented in 1976. It's a standard 25-foot tape, but with a 1-1/2" x 3/4" LCD which also shows measurements in cm and ft/in (accurate to 3mm and 1/8") plus a built-in digital voice recorder that will take (2) messages of up to (10) seconds each, which is lots easier than trying to find the pencil so you can write on the wall while you drop the tape measure. The LCD can be set to include the length of the case or not, and there's a lock for the tape and a hold button for the LCD. Comes with (2) coin cell batteries for power and measures 4 x 3-1/2" x 2" OA.
