Really Big Retriever
Like a 300-lb Labrador for the shop. Our ceramic lift magnet is mounted in a metal housing with swivel that will attach to a standard threaded broom handle or painter's pole. Will lift approx 65 pounds, enough to retrieve microwave ovens from storm sewers or pull a small outboard motor from the bottom of a lake. Maybe.

Our bulb-type manual siphon pump comes with 12" and 45" lengths of clear vinyl 3/16" tubing that attach to a 3-1/2" long x 1-7/8" dia bulb. Made for petroleum products. At $3.50, it pays for itself with the first gallon you suck out of your neighbor's Toyota. (Just kidding!) Use it to empty oil on something besides the garage floor or your head, fill the mower straight from the mini-van, or transfer gas from one vehicle to another. (Check to make sure you own both vehicles first.)

Sew What?
We've had our eye on this macho needle kit. It includes (7) steel needles: (1) 1-3/4" for leather, (1) 1-3/4" for carpet, (1) 2-1/4" for sails, (2) 3" needles, one for packing and one for canvas, and (2) 2-1/8" dia curved needles, one for mattresses and one for lampshades. All right. So maybe you can use the lampshade needle to sew up softballs. May we suggest you stick these on one of our magnets, so you always know where they are?

or blow it up, with our piston-operated hand pump that saves you a mouthful of nasty when siphoning gas, oil, or whatever else you're moving, and also blows, to help you pump air into mattresses and their ilk. You get (2) 49" lengths of 1/2" OD, 5/16" ID tubing for liquids, a 16" threaded length of 1/2" OD x 3/16" ID air hose with a standard tire valve, and a 30" length of 1/4" OD x 1/8" ID with a beach-ball nozzle. The piston has a 4-1/2" throw and measures 9" long x 1-3/4" dia with 1/2" ID inlet/outlet.

Not a news story but a little aluminum shovel of the type hardware store people used to use to scoop nails out of a bin. The cut away cylindrical chamber is about 3-1/2" dia x 6" long. It has a 3" handle on the back and the whole thing is a single casting. Known in the business as a size #1, it should work nicely for ladling seed into the bird feeder, salt onto the driveway, or sand into piles at the beach.
