Save The Walls
Smart tenants use HangTak", a version of the famous BluTackyStuff from England (and of Iceland's kennaratyggjó, or "teachers' chewing gum."). Made for mounting posters, pics and notices without damaging painted surfaces. You get a whole bunch: (4) sticks 2-1/8" x 3/4" x 3/8" each, enough to stick lurid posters on the walls of half-a-dozen dorm rooms. Acid- and lignin-free. Reusable.

Blue Glue Times Two
The bluer gluer twofer. Get a pair of crafter's glue sticks, (1) 1/4 oz tube about the size of a lipstick, for traveling crafts, and (1) 3/4 oz regulation size. The blue color lets you see where you schmeared it, but it dries clear. Very clever.

You can still turn your excess time into a frivolous (but non-violent) lifestyle. 1-1/4" x 1-1/2" squares of yellow hot-melt glue, made for use in a glue pot, can work with heat sources you may already have on hand, like a candle, lighter or soldering iron. General purpose adhesive suitable for attaching decorative flounces to unsightly workbenches. Dries slightly yellow, choose your color scheme accordingly.
