Hemostatic Heaven
Hemostats are the clamplike devices dangling from veins and arteries in melodramatic operating scenes. Our particular collection are Pakistani surgical-grade instruments made of magnetic stainless steel. As such we rate them pretty good, but not fantastic. Hemostats look like little pliers. The jaws are relatively fine, with rounded tips. The inside faces are lightly serrated to get a grip on tubing or body plumbing. And the handles are much longer than the jaws. Now the heavenly part. Great hobby clamps that can be worked into small areas. Fine heat sinks for electronics. Good hook extractors for trout fisherpeople. Excellent tubing clamps for flow-sensitive chemistry experiments. Sizes are approximate length.

Cut Right To It
This all-purpose scissors is the favorite of everyone at A.S.&S.: Pat uses his to cut and strip wire. C.J. uses his to slit the tape on packages. Mary Ann uses hers to open bags of pretzels. It's 6-1/4" long overall, with a very sharp 2" stainless steel blade and large, comfortable handles. It would sell for $9.95 retail if it was new, but it was used for one day to cut cloth in the assembly plant of a major car company, then discarded. Quality control is a wonderful thing.

Positioner/Holder
A fine concept and pretty successful execution. Weighted bases hold fully adjustable clips and lenses for delicate hands–free work. The Helping Hand w/solder has a 2” high base connected to (2) alligator clips via (3) universal joints and a 4–1/2" sliding beam, and to a 2–1/2" dia roughly 3X magnifier via another universal joint on the sliding beam. It also adds a holder for your soldering iron, plus a hole and thumbscrew in the base to firmly position it. The larger Work Stand has a 3–1/2” x 4–3/4” stand with a 2–3/4” square x 3/8” deep reservoir to hold small parts, an L–shaped sliding beam with (2) alligator clips, and another L-shaped beam with a 3–1/2” lens, about 4X magnification. Joints adjust every which way. The set screws can all be hand–tightened, but we suggest a small pliers to secure the hefty 4X lens. Think of the clips as extra hands to hold wires, components, beads, what-have-you while you perform some operation on them with your own two hands.

Butane Beauty
It's stylish, it's handy, it has a slightly menacing look to it, and-truth be told-it's a lot of fun. It's a handheld butane torch, great for everyone: in the lab, under the hood, working with circuitry, heck, a chef can even use it to flambé the dessert. 6-1/4" tall, 3-5/8" x 2-1/4" dia base, 3-5/8" long at the top, with a textured grip, push-button start with safety, and air adjustment to control the size of the flame. Easy to fill with butane, which you'll need to do 'cause no fuel is included.

Tap/Die Set
Small, but mighty useful if you need a tiny tap and die set for threading wire or stripped screws. The micro set has a 3-1/4" long die plate and 14 taps (sizes 7 through 20 -- read 0.7 mm through 2.0 mm), and a mighty attractive price. A little oily in its vinyl storage pouch -- but it's all steel, after all, and has to safeguard its complexion.

Diamonds Are A File's Best Friend
Stick this diamond file in your pocket (it's got a handy pocket clip on the sleeve it slips into) and walk around looking sharp. It's 4-3/8" long overall, with a 2-3/8" section of diamond grit that is flat on one side, and rounded on the other. The round side has a single groove which is really handy for filing your fingernails, even if this Crystal Saver file was originally designed to smooth out the chipped edges of crystal goblets!

Attach Anything!
You need this. Anybody who's ever made a third trip to the hardware store on the same day needs this. The (100) -- count 'em, (100) -- chrome vanadium driver and bit attachments include slotted, Phillips, square (Robertson) head, torx, hex and 12-point bits, plus security Phillips, torx and hex, and (4) different driver adapters (one of which, a super-cute cup-hook driver, has us oddly excited). They're all in a flip-top plastic case. How come it's surplus? If you turn it upside down and shake it, some of the bits fall out of their little size-marked slots. So don't do that. Or stick a thin sheet of foam inside it and all will be well.

Old Codger's Carving Set
Not an old codger? Get an early start. This was made for sitting on the porch, carving family heirlooms after supper. The pressboard case holds a 6-piece wood carving set with (3) small straight gouges, (1) straight chisel, (1) V-gouge and (1) skew chisel. All are approx 5" long, with wooden handles. Be even better if you used them while an old dog was asleep at your feet, but we don't sell old dogs.
