The Green Hornet's Laser
Because the Red Hornet's laser pointers are a dime a dozen. The green ones are a serious step up in manufacturing costs -- plus this one is very impressive, with a visible green beam in the dark. Use it under the stars for astronomy classes. Point out a building's finer points during architectural tours. Amuse your audience during dull, illustrated lectures in big, dim auditoriums. The sturdy 5mW laser pointer has a push-on/push-off switch, far preferable to a momentary switch when you're using it during a long presentation. Comes with (2) "AAA" batteries and a great little black foam case to store it in. The pointer measures 6-1/2" x 1/2" dia.

A Little Lightning
Despite parental advice, here's a good reason to sit in in a dark room and think small. This Plasma Storm isn't as large as a standard plasma ball, so not only is it much more affordable -- the effect is concentrated and startling. The black plastic base has a switch. Turn it on at which point the 3" dia plastic globe (think baseball size) is filled with blue stems that flare to pink, looking like dozens of electric flowers searching for a way out. Very cool. Comes with a 6-ft power cord with transformer.

Poor Man's Luminaria
It's a little 2-1/2" square base with brushed-aluminum-look sides and a mirrored top, in the middle of which 3 colored LEDs flash on and off in individual and combination patterns. Makes a dandy base to show off crystal and cocktail glasses, but stick a large styrene coffee cup upside down over it and put it in a dark room and you have the world's cheapest multi-color light show. Line up a dozen or so on the front walk and you've got the world's first flashing multicolored luminaria show for party nights. You add (3) "AAA" batteries.
