With a switch. They made this strong little reversible DC motor (stall current at 12VDC is a whopping 15A) for an auto vacuum cleaner, which is why it's wired to a 15-foot cord with a cigarette-lighter adapter. Operates from 6-12VDC with max performance at 12VDC, 10,000 rpm at 2A. Measures approx 2-3/4" long x 1-7/8" dia with a removable plastic housing, plus a 3/16" x 1-1/4" threaded shaft with a 3/16-32 thread for the last 5/16". Has a hard-wired thermister between the momentary switch and motor.

Slightly larger than some of our hobby motors, this Mabuchi RS-365SH double-shaft motor is a good choice for science-fair projects. Its range is 6 VDC, 50 mA, 550 rpm to 24 VDC, 80 mA, 2,000 rpm. The 3/32" dia shaft extends 5/8" from the terminal end of the 1-1/2" x 1-1/16" dia motor, and 3/8" from the other end. It has (2) 5" leads.

It's interesting in itself, but what we really like about this 4-3/16" dia subtractive 5-color dichroic filter is its Nidec 3 VDC double-coil stepper motor, manufacturer's part #3258754010. It has a 4-pin ribbon lead, and a little driver circuit board with a 6-pin Molex connector. Approx 1-1/8" thick OA. Sorry, no hook-up sheet.

Which is a good idea, since this gear motor is designed for intermittent use. Rated at 120VAC and is fractional horsepower. The motor draws 1.6A no load and stalls at 2.5A. The output shaft is 3/4" long x 3/8", rotates clockwise and spins at 80 rpm. Measures 4-3/8" x 3-1/4" x 2-1/2" OA, without the shafts, and weighs 3 lbs.

Nifty device that takes maxi air and squeezes it down into a mini condition. The device is roughly 6-1/2"" long x 6" tall x 4" wide. It has a 10 ft. cord that plugs into an auto lighter socket: i.e. it runs on 12VDC @ 10 amps. Air output is via a 12" hose with a variety of valve adapters for tires, soccer balls, rubber rafts, and just dusting off the environment. Complete with a 0-250 psi gauge. Which should be plenty of pressure to explode a weak bike tire or flimsy beach ball, so please be careful!

Pay yer money and take yer pick. Both are reversible, permanent-magnet, 6-12VDC motors. The Johnson version (Johnson #31942) is 1-1/4" long x 1-1/8" dia with a 1-1/16" long x 3/32" dia shaft, and a pair of 1/8" quick-disconnect tabs on the back. It operates with max efficiency at 12V, 5484 rpm and drawing .322A. Has .527 oz/in of torque. Draws approx 100mA no load. Has (2) 1/16" mounting holes on the face. The Molon is at max efficiency at 12VDC, 11,100 rpm at 1.40A. Measures 1-1/2" long x 1-1/16" dia with a 3/8" long x 3/8" dia striated shaft. Has (2) mounting holes on the face and power tabs on the back.

This big 24 VDC German-made centrifugal fan from EBM-PAPST, originally an industrial exhaust fan, measures 9-1/2" dia x 3-3/8" thick with the motor housing protruding 7/16" from the bottom. It has (4) threaded 3/16" mounting holes, an impeller with (11) backward-curved blades, and a 22" 4-lead cable for power. It operates at 24VDC, 6 amps and has Lotsa power, our blower boffin says, and sharp; spins at 2700 rpm at full power and comes with a 10" dia x 1-1/4 thick steel inlet ring. It's mfr #R3G250-AJ64-20. We'll include hook-up instructions. In English.

Couldn't be simpler. A small 6VDC submersible water pump lifts liquid approx 18" and runs off the 10-1/2" x 6-1/4" x 3/4" thick solar panel that's included. No storage battery, so…no sun, no fontana. But do you really care that your little fountain doesn't work in the rain? You're going to be inside anyway. The pump measures 2-5/8" long x 1-3/8" wide x 1-5/8" tall without the 7/8" x 1/4" ID output tube, and has rubber suction-cup feet. The solar panel has a 38" cord to mate with the pump, and a pair of sliding, 1/4" mounting nuts.

These are really geared reduction motors, but much smaller and of lower power. Often used to operate cams and switches in electrical circuits, or to drive displays, they can generally be operated in continuous applications if not heavily loaded. Most are about 2" dia. x 1-1/2" thick. Remember CW means “Clockwise” and CCW “Counter–clockwise,” looking at the shaft.
