We've got rocks by the box. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice of our gallimaufry of geological goodies. The Mohs Kit is a mineral hardness scale set, with (9) specimens: gypsum, talc, calcite, fluorite, apatite, orthoclase, quartz, topaz and corundum. The Mineral Kit has (15) specimens: fluorite, microline, feldspar, hematite, pyrite, calcite, magnetite, talc, pyrolusite, graphite, milky quartz, mica, satin spar, selenite and alabaster gypsum. The Rock Kit has (15) specimens, (5) each of igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic rock types. All kits include a small magnifier, tray and instruction pamphlet. The Mohs and Mineral Kits also come with a nail and ceramic streak plate.

Glorious Steam Stationary Plants...
Build a real head of live steam in the boiler, ease the throttle open and watch the engine take off. The stationary steam plants have nickel plated brass horizontal boiler, water gauge, whistle, safety valve, throttle, 3" dia flywheel and power takeoff pulley. Our dry pellet fuel model (includes 20 fuel pellets) has a single action horizontal piston engine and comes as a kit. It requires about 2 hours to assemble and mount on its roughly 7" sq base, using simple tools like pliers and screwdriver. Assembly adds to the fun and cuts the price! All parts of each are precision metal, plated or enameled as appropriate. Select a small DC motor that will operate as a generator from our catalogs and see if you can become a 19th century electric utility!! Requires light assembly. Ages 10 and up. Add a box of (20) extra fuel pellets for even more hours of enjoyment!

Made like a drill press, it's designed to drill holes in small stones or sea shells for stringing on chains or mounting on jewelry. You get the drill, an AC adapter, an ounce of shells, 3 ounces of polished stones, a replacement drill bit, a jar of glue, and an assortment of (20) key-rings, chains, earring wires and rings. Has (2) safety locks and a protective dome to prevent injury, and uses water to lubricate the drill. Can be used by children age 8 and over, with adult supervision.

There is no way to tell from the outside if they have crystal centers, but we will send you two just to raise your odds, and we haven't had a dud yet in our stores!! Most coins will be worth a few dollars, the supplier says, but some rare finds could be worth "hundreds or even thousands." Plenty of fun either way.

Large Rock Polishing Kit
Budding lapidarians will lap up this rock polishing kit which is so complete it even contains some rocks. The polishing tumbler has a (3) lb. ((1) qt.) fifteen sided rubber barrel and is driven by a 115 VAC motor. Overall dimensions are 6" x 6" x 7-1/2" high. In addition to the tumbler, the kit includes an assortment of jewelry findings and a detailed manual giving you easy to follow instructions. But don't think of it only as useful for jewelry making. As a hobby, our Uncle George for many years collected and polished a wide variety of rocks which he found interesting and made beautiful in and of themselves.

Lay Siege To The Doghouse!

Right after you build your own working medieval catapult or trebuchet. All you'll need is glue, scissors and a steady hand (plus a small bag of marbles or rocks or something as a counterweight for the trebuchet) to construct these wooden, Canadian-made siege engine kits. The catapult stands 6" tall x 5" wide x 10" long and will toss assorted stuff 15 feet or farther, depending upon the stuff. The finished trebuchet will be 26" long x 18" wide x 24" tall and will propel small objects (meatballs?) 20 feet or more. Both include detailed instructions. Note: Please don't propel small mammals, and please don't put anyone's eye out.

Each kit contains enough balsa wood pieces and glue to supply (24) budding engineers or physics students with what it takes to test their skills at wooden bridge construction. Includes a 12pp teacher's guide with info about (6) bridge styles and (8) types of trusses, (24) rules/instruction sheets for students, (360) pieces of 1/8" square x 24" long wood, and (24) bottles of white glue.
