Everybody loves a surprise, so order these Erector® Design Starter vehicle kits and we'll surprise you with (2) different ones. All have 60+ to 90+ pieces, and range from 6" to 8" long when assembled. No motors. We'll grab from our bin of tractor, front-end loader, helicopter, single-engine plane, dune buggy, and motorcycle kits. All include instructions and require simple hand tools. Ages 8 and way up.

Leonardo Rides Again

Now you can re-create two of Leonardo Da Vinci's most prescient vehicles. You get everything you need to build small scale models of either his self-propelled cart or paddlewheel boat. The cart was driven by bent-wood spring tension and featured a gearing system and programmable steering. His was wood; yours is wood-like plastic, approx 6" square x 3-1/4" tall with all the right moving parts. The paddleboat was pedaled (making it a pedal-paddle boat) and your model will be approx 7-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" tall. Both kits include a 16-page booklet with good instructions plus an overview of the maestro's life. For ages 8 and up.

The original ran on diesel and cost a fortune, but our tin and plastic model train is a bargain as a wind-up, 3-car classic toy. Measures 13-3/4" long overall x 1-7/8" tall x approx 1-1/2" wide.

That's not a foam nose cone, you know!) The 4-1/4" x 1-1/4" dia seltzer rocket that holds water and (1) dissolving seltzer tablet. The rocket that has shot almost 30 feet in the air for us. It comes with (4) antacid tablets, just like those you can buy at the drug store -- and it's basic science at its best!

Red Robot-On-A-Rope

The 4-in-1 Electronic Robot can traverse a rope hand-over-hand in Orangutan mode (a first for us) but has three other settings: Gorilla, on two legs, Centaur, on four legs, and Spider, on six legs. Comes in a kit: you build it in whichever configuration you like, and then change it around at will. He's sound-activated and comes with a pre-assembled circuit board and condenser mic. The finished red plastic bot will measure approx 6-1/2" x 5-1/4" x 3-3/5" tall. Requires simple hand tools to assemble and is recommend for ages 10 and up. You add (2) "AA" batteries.

Very Proficiently Flying

Our PC-9 rubber-band powered styro airplane boasts a big, long rubber power plant, plastic prop, and landing gear. Measures 15" nose to tail with an 18" wingspan. Takes some light assembly but, the directions say, "when you play this plane very proficiently, you will find that it can be made more wonderful flying ways." Indeed. Rated for 200 feet of flight (80% longer than the Wright brother's first flight!), but we'd avoid really windy days for the best proficiently flying.
