You Are The Carbonator
Foolish fun with fizziness. This clever carbonation kit for kids of all ages uses baking soda and vinegar (that you supply) to create and pump odorless and tasteless CO2 into any liquid. The manufacturer suggests fruit juices, chocolate milk, yogurt, pancake batter, gelatin molds and gravy (gravy?!?), but we know you can do better than that. Includes 21" x 1/4" OD U-tubes, pop-bottle screw caps and (2) concentric 8" tubes for the raw ingredients.

You want to touch these life-size, beautifully detailed, 3 lb lizards, don’t you? The Jumbo Monitor Lizard, found in Africa, Asia and Australia, is now is available here. He has cream-to-brown coloring and a flexible forked tongue, and is 41” long when his tail is uncurled. The Green Iguana, 3 ft long from nose to tail, takes only 2 ft of branch (or shelf) space, since his tail also has a natural looking curl. We’ve seen these guys being sold for food in Central America, and you couldn’t tell this one from the real thing--except that theirs are Blue Iguanas. Being concerned about the environment, we always prefer green.

The Itsy-Bitsy Spider…

This particular spider is a tad larger than itsy-bitsy at approx 2-1/2" x 2", and he runs down walls instead of up water spouts (gravity-driven, you know), but otherwise he's the same guy as the nursery rhyme. You get the already-assembled Crawly Wally mechanism, plus dense foam pieces to apply to it, so if you're 10 or over you can assemble your very own wall-window-fridge-walking arachnid. Test painted walls in an inconspicuous area before using.

How To Play Bridge

To play bridge, first you have to build one. Here are (2) of our favorite bridge kits to choose from. The two-level bascule bridge is a 30-plus-piece wooden kit for a working model of a Strauss trunion bascule bridge—the French invention that’s seen in all the bridges over the Chicago River. The wooden swing bridge is a truss design, not unlike the one Leonardo designed in the 16th century. Both are approx 28” long x 11” high x 4” wide when complete. They’re designed to carry small wooden toy trains, but will hold most small toy cars, plastic people, whatever. Kits include glue, instructions and stickers and, while unpainted, are paintable. For ages 8 and up.

Wood Would Always Be Better
We woodn't kid you; we always like wooden kits best. More organic. These are all pre-cut, unfinished pine and include nails. You add wood glue, simple hand tools and paint. Pick the little birdhouse, which will be approx 6" long x 3-1/4" square; the pirate ship, which will be approx 8-1/4" tall x 7" long x 1-5/8" wide, with black-string rigging and paper sails that are included; or the fun 6 3/4" x 2" x 2" drag racer. Leonardo Rides Again

Now you can re-create two of Leonardo Da Vinci's most prescient vehicles. You get everything you need to build small scale models of either his self-propelled cart or paddlewheel boat. The cart was driven by bent-wood spring tension and featured a gearing system and programmable steering. His was wood; yours is wood-like plastic, approx 6" square x 3-1/4" tall with all the right moving parts. The paddleboat was pedaled (making it a pedal-paddle boat) and your model will be approx 7-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" tall. Both kits include a 16-page booklet with good instructions plus an overview of the maestro's life. For ages 8 and up.

Launch Like Leonardo

The assembled model will be approx 9" tall on a 10" x 7-1/4" base. Made from pre-cut, untreated wood from sustainable forests, and built with pegs for added strength and verisimilitude. Glorious Steam Stationary Plants...

Build a real head of live steam in the boiler, ease the throttle open and watch the engine take off. The stationary steam plants have nickel plated brass horizontal boiler, water gauge, whistle, safety valve, throttle, 3" dia flywheel and power takeoff pulley. Our dry pellet fuel model (includes 20 fuel pellets) has a single action horizontal piston engine and comes as a kit. It requires about 2 hours to assemble and mount on its roughly 7" sq base, using simple tools like pliers and screwdriver. Assembly adds to the fun and cuts the price! All parts of each are precision metal, plated or enameled as appropriate. Select a small DC motor that will operate as a generator from our catalogs and see if you can become a 19th century electric utility!! Requires light assembly. Ages 10 and up. Add a box of (20) extra fuel pellets for even more hours of enjoyment!
