Pocket Ant Farm
All ant farms are small by definition, we suppose, but this spread is a minuscule 2-3/4" x 2-1/4" x 3/4" thick and comes with a magnifier for keeping an eye on the herd. Yes, it's a gel-filled pocket ant farm, so you can travel and take the livestock with you (although wise middle-schoolers will keep it out of their teacher's line of sight.) Assorted gel colors. All you add are the ants. Ignore those spiders on the label. Surplus, remember?

Large Rock Polishing Kit

Budding lapidarians will lap up this rock polishing kit which is so complete it even contains some rocks. The polishing tumbler has a (3) lb. ((1) qt.) fifteen sided rubber barrel and is driven by a 115 VAC motor. Overall dimensions are 6" x 6" x 7-1/2" high. In addition to the tumbler, the kit includes an assortment of jewelry findings and a detailed manual giving you easy to follow instructions. But don't think of it only as useful for jewelry making. As a hobby, our Uncle George for many years collected and polished a wide variety of rocks which he found interesting and made beautiful in and of themselves.

When ornithopters roamed the earth…oops, no, it just sounds like a dinosaur. The ornithopter was one of Leonardo's masterful designs, although this one just led to a bunch of guys on winged bicycles plummeting to the earth in the 19th century. Still extremely cool, however, in this kit version. Pre-cut, unpainted wooden pieces assemble with pegs to make a crank-operated moving model with a 24" wingspan, complete with a human figure, which our model-guru calls a 15th C. crash-test dummy.
