These “First Surface” optical mirrors generally also have better glass and flatter surfaces than their household brethren. Delicate, with the fragile reflective surface exposed, they carry the prices that precision demands. We believe these rectangular plastic lenses were intended for the view finders in inexpensive cameras. at 15mm x 21.5mm, with a short (-80mm) focal length, and a half aluminized side, they produce a reduced scale image projected onto another image. For instance, hold the half aluminized side toward you about 4" from your eye, and look at a wall. You will see a magnified image of your eye "projected" on a slightly out of focus and reduced image of the wall!! Now move the lens about 10" from your eye, put the tip of a pen about 2" from the lens and you get a big image of the pen superimposed on a reduced image of the rest of the world. Your get the idea!! Good to muse about, explain the optics for a science project, or just use to show your friends how weird the people at American Science are. Monitor Mirror
It doesn't say that on the box, but that's what we're using it for around here because we're tired of surprises. It's a slightly convex 2-3/8" x 2" plastic mirror with a ball-and-socket joint (4-1/8" tall OA) with a self-adhesive strip to mount it where you can see people who have no business sneaking up on you in the first place, OK? Includes a little clip on the back to hold notes.
