Calling all physics teachers: This slick, semiconductor-based unit demonstrates the Peltier effect (conversion of electricity into heat and cold) and the reverse Seebeck effect. Designed to work with a couple of standard foam coffee cups. The unit has a Peltier junction sandwiched between (2) 1-3/4" x approx 7" long aluminum brackets and is connected to a small DC motor with a blade, (2) banana-plug sockets, and a switch between them. Good instructions, despite their spelling Peltier as "Peltire." Made in the U.S. for Pacific Science Supplies, Inc.

This is an intriguing teaching and demonstration device that generates static electricity and provides a hands-on experience for students or electrophiles. (2) 9-3/4" clear plastic wheels, with finger-shaped sections of metal foil mounted around their circumferences, rotate in opposite directions with the turn of a crank. (3) brushes touch the foil sections on each plate as it turns. (1) neutralizing brush distributes the charge, and (2) other brushes collect the built-up charges being generated as the wheels turn. The charge is collected in (2) Leyden jars, and discharged through (2) adjustable electrodes. The faster you crank, the more high-voltage electricity crackles and sparks between the electrodes, producing arcs up to 2" long. The Wimshurst Generator is 15" high, mounted on a 8" x 11-3/4" laminated base, will generate up to 75,000 volts, and is as entrancing now as it was at the turn of the last century.

Holy Gadolinium, Batman, who discovered this Gd element? We're not sure, but he's close to our hearts, since Gd is a magnetic metal of the rare-earth group, and you know how we love rare earth magnets. This excellent 38-1/2" x 26-3/4" poster of the Periodic Table lists the elemental information about Gd and 117 other elements, and includes mini-biographies of (7) scientists. The full-color poster is not laminated, but is a good quality coated paper, and a fascinating addition to any classroom.

Another teach-'em-while-they-eat product: clever laminated placemats that display the flags of (29) European or (28) North/South/Central American countries. Rub the heat-sensitive bar under each flag and the country, capital and currency are revealed (and fade again in a minute or two). Yes, the kiddles can draw on them with crayons or dry-erase markers, and no, they don't have to be used to eat from, they could just be teaching aids. Mats measure 13-1/2" x 9-5/8".

Also block letters. Perfect for home schoolers or classroom teachers, our each is a package of (35) laminated strips for the desktop with the alphabet in upper- and lower-case block and cursive letters 9/32" tall-pint-sized replicas of the giant version that runs above the chalkboard. Laminated so 1st through 3rd graders can practice right on the strip and then wipe the letters off.

Good value hand held plastic spectroscope. It uses a diffraction grating to create the spectrum against a small measurement scale. (Hold it a couple of inches away from your eye for best results.) Fine for introductory science and demonstrating principles, and general observation, but not a precision instrument. Comes with simple instructions and explanatory write up.

Y columna vertebral. Y the bones, fractures and dislocations associated with them. All the text on these 26” x 20” slightly glossy anatomical charts featuring the shoulder, elbow and spinal column is in Spanish. If you want them for a classroom or a doctor’s office, better get them fast, before they sell out as funky wall art.

Learn geometry, or learn to build the world’s coolest sand castles. Our each is a set of (2) geometric shapes in brightly colored transparent plastic. The set of (2) includes the pyramid and the cone. All shapes are open on the bottom, the better to get the sand into them. And out of them.

Even the person who has everything doesn't have full-color posters of ulcers and cancers! Then again, some people don't throw anything away. The 20" x 29" ulcer poster illustrates different types, while the 20" x 26" cancer poster illustrates different treatments. Both are from 1985. Great gift idea.
