Calling all physics teachers: This slick, semiconductor-based unit demonstrates the Peltier effect (conversion of electricity into heat and cold) and the reverse Seebeck effect. Designed to work with a couple of standard foam coffee cups. The unit has a Peltier junction sandwiched between (2) 1-3/4" x approx 7" long aluminum brackets and is connected to a small DC motor with a blade, (2) banana-plug sockets, and a switch between them. Good instructions, despite their spelling Peltier as "Peltire." Made in the U.S. for Pacific Science Supplies, Inc.

Way inside? Try our human X-rays. These are from Roylco® and are very useful for biology teachers, but with lots of other applications. Make a very easy oversized jigsaw puzzle or, with some super glue, a great shower curtain. But the real possibilities are for artists and designers: fold ’em into lampshades, blow them up or shrink them on a copier, or scan them and have fun in Photoshop™. You get the human skeletal system, a complete skeleton when assembled, in (18) sheets of various sizes, reprinted on transparencies which work with overhead projectors. Info sheets in English and French.

They might as well learn something while they're trying to outlast you on eating those lima beans. Set the table with educational placemats and they'll be at least a touch smarter after dinner, even if their vegetable intake is low. These laminated, 12" x 17-3/8" mats have full-color fronts, black-and-white backs. Choose the United States Map, Stars & Constellations, the Periodic Table of Elements or Weather/Meteorological Info.

You do if you have this pair of super-handy magnetic battery connectors to use when teaching students about series/parallel wiring. Each connector has a 7/8" dia disc magnet with (2) swiveling tabs, one with dimples and one with 1-16" dia holes for easy wiring. Made for use with C- or D-cell batteries, mostly because they're better than smaller batteries at standing on a desk or lab table without toppling over.

Holy Gadolinium, Batman, who discovered this Gd element? We're not sure, but he's close to our hearts, since Gd is a magnetic metal of the rare-earth group, and you know how we love rare earth magnets. This excellent 38-1/2" x 26-3/4" poster of the Periodic Table lists the elemental information about Gd and 117 other elements, and includes mini-biographies of (7) scientists. The full-color poster is not laminated, but is a good quality coated paper, and a fascinating addition to any classroom.

Another teach-'em-while-they-eat product: clever laminated placemats that display the flags of (29) European or (28) North/South/Central American countries. Rub the heat-sensitive bar under each flag and the country, capital and currency are revealed (and fade again in a minute or two). Yes, the kiddles can draw on them with crayons or dry-erase markers, and no, they don't have to be used to eat from, they could just be teaching aids. Mats measure 13-1/2" x 9-5/8".
