A twofer from Helix®. Their combo is a 2-3/8" dia x 13/16" thick disk. Half is a big (replaceable) eraser, the other side is a clear housing to hold the shavings that fall into it from the pencil sharpener on the edge. We're thinking traveling graphic artist, or any kid's school bag.

Science fair projects made easy. At least the thinking part is made easy. You pick from either of Glen Vecchione's books. "Blue Ribbon Science Fair Projects" has 82 clearly outlined projects in 224 pages, including mini-motor-making, kitchen hygrometer, and whether chewing gum improves memory. "100 Amazing First Prize Science Fair Projects" has, yes, 100 projects, including classics such as bridge-building, ant farms and Foulcault's pendulum. 208 pages. Both are from Sterling Publishing.

You'd expect to find these 5" x 7" souvenir cards at Navy Pier, before there was anything at Navy Pier. They're circa 1980, with full-color touristy photos. If you're a Chicago buff, frame them. Or pass them out at your next party and see who can pinpoint the date of the photos from high-rise construction and cars in the background. Or actually use them as notecards, if you don't mind the slightly dated look. (10) in a pack, with at least (5) different scenes.

Even the person who has everything doesn't have full-color posters of ulcers and cancers! Then again, some people don't throw anything away. The 20" x 29" ulcer poster illustrates different types, while the 20" x 26" cancer poster illustrates different treatments. Both are from 1985. Great gift idea.

So the poster is really brand new. The animals on it are (1) to (190) million years old, and if that doesn't qualify as pre-history, may we stumble over a glyptodon in the dark. Invicta Plastics Ltd. of Leicester, England, printed this 23" x 16-1/2" poster with a colorful diorama to promote their authentic scale models of prehistoric animals. A time line across the bottom lists dates and data for a dozen of them, from the plesiosaur to the woolly mammoth, and compares their sizes to that of a pair of five-year-old children. Post it on the fridge to spark supper discussions, or in the classroom as a source of extra-credit questions for science quizzes.
