Conductivity Pen
This stable and easy-to-use conductivity pen from Sper Scientific is a compact 6-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" and weighs only 2-1/2 ounces. Measures microsiemens (0 - 1999) or millisiemens (0 - 19.99) and temperature ( 32°F - 122°F). View the parameter being measured and the temperature (C° or F°) simultaneously on a large LCD display. Has waterproof housing will float if dropped into water. Features one-hand operation, automatic temperature compensation, 2-pt calibration, low-battery indicator, hold function, and auto power off. Still In The Lab?
Distillation made heuristic. Nothing explains a process like a little hands-on experience, and this laboratory distillation kit is for showing instead of telling. Includes a 300mm Liebig condenser, Kjeldahl distilling column with 50mm dia bulb and rubber stoppers, 500ml Bomex boiling flask with 8" iron tripod, 2-foot lab stand/base with a single burette clamp, 500ml graduated Erlenmeyer flask and a 6" square of ceramic-coated wire gauze. You add some 1/4" ID tubing for the Liebig ports. Includes good directions for distilling ethanol and acetic acid. And let's remember that this is for laboratory distilling. Don't try this at home.

Lab Stand
Affordable, adaptable lab equipment for serious scientists with laughable budgets. The basic stand is heavy black metal 8" long x 5" wide x 1" high with a 19-1/2" x 3/8" dia support rod screwed into it. Position a beaker or bunsen burner on the stand and build the configuration you need above it. Both of the Burette clamps and the ring attach to the rod with thumbscrew clamps. The Burette clamps have wing nuts so they can be adjusted to any angle. The single clamp extends 4" from the rod, with rounded, uncoated, adjustable metal jaws with spring tension and a wing nut. The double clamp like it has rubber-coated jaws. The 3" metal support ring holds the 6" x 6" heavy-gauge steel-mesh burner screen with crimped edges. Nice, solid equipment at a rare price.

Each non-sterile transfer pipet measures 6-1/8" long, with a 1mm mouth, a 3/16" dia neck, and a 1/2" dia bulb. It holds 3.5ml and is graduated up to 1ml in .25ml increments. Made for a laboratory, of course, but equally useful in the kitchen, for portioning out that aceto balsamico tradizionale di Modena you paid $80 an ounce for.

Stethos is Greek for chest. Indeed you can scope your stethos with this stethoscope, or your friend's or your dog's. But it works equally well for picking up any sound being transmitted through a solid medium. Listen to the air flowing through the heating ducts, the water in the pipes, the sounds of machinery, the termites munching on the floor joists!! The color does vary so we will select from what's currently available. We've had blue, teal, red, black, burgundy, green and purple, but there may be other colors yet to be seen! A great discovery device whether for biology or other pursuits. Not of professional quality, but not just a toy.

Care To Mix It Up?
Our magnetic mixer is made for use in a laboratory, but could also be handy if you like your martinis stirred, not shaken, and your arm is tired after a long day in the lab. The unit is 4-3/4" square x 1-7/8" thick (you top it with the appropriate beaker), and stir speed is adjustable from 100 to 1000 rpm. Capacity is 1 liter and the stir bar is a 1" x 5/16" dia Alnico magnet covered with a molded Teflon™ coating for ease of cleaning, and with a center pivot ring for lower friction and better mixing. Now's a good time to think about ordering an extra stir bar, too.

Litmus Paper
Chemically treated paper strips to test for acid or base (alkaline) solutions. Use the blue for acids, the red for bases. The more sophisticated pH test paper strip indicates pH from 1 (bright red) to 14 (dark brown). Values in between can be read by comparing with a color chart that comes with the strips. All have (100) strips of test paper per vial.
