Soy Agar
Agar, it's not just a crossword puzzle answer. It's the medium of choice for growing bacteria, molds, etc., and just what you need if you're shopping for laboratory staples or for your next science-fair project. Melt the medium in a microwave, pour into a Petri dish, and allow to set before applying test material. Do not freeze, and after exposure or melting, store at the temperature on the label. Does approx. 10-12 petri dishes.

Measuring pH
This handheld pH meter from Hanna Instruments measures 0-14 pH to 0.01 resolution, accurate to +/- 0.2. Calibration screw for 7.01, and another for 4.01 or 10.01 pH. The unit is 6-3/4" X 2" X 15/16" OA, with a 4-digit 1-1/8" X 1/2" LCD readout, and a replaceable 4-1/8" long x 9mm dia probe that screws into the case. Comes with a tip cover for the probe and (2) button-cell batteries. Don't forget to order the 20mL foil packs of pH 7.01 Buffer Solution, with a chart listing the specific pH of the solution at various temperatures. We like this Conair Ultrasonic Cleaner, and we've been able to price it very attractively. The silver-plastic cleaner is approx. 8" x 5-1/4" x 5-5/16" OA, with a 20oz stainless steel cleaning well. Submerge jewelry, lenses, CD/DVD's, shaver heads, small machine parts, etc., in water approx 5-3/4" x 3-1/2" x 1-1/2" deep that cleans by vibrating 42,000 times per second. It has a hinged, see-through lid, a removable plastic tray, five timed cycles from 90 to 480 seconds and an attached 4-ft cord.

A Corker
There's a tool for everything. Think post-hole diggers for a model railroad layout. All right, all right. Think cork borers for all those solid corks and rubber stoppers in laboratories, the ones that need holes for glass and rubber tubing. Our each is a set of (3) 3-3/4" long brass tubes with sharpened ends and red-plastic T-handles. Diameters are 9/32", 7/32" and 5/32". They're nested on the 4-3/4" pin used to clear the plug from the tube.

Student Bacteria
We collected it ourselves, from local students. (Just a little joke, teachers.) What we have here is bacteria-experiment kit for classroom use with (2) 200ml bottles of prepared nutrient agar, (20) sterile Petri dishes, (10) sterile swabs, and (4) instruction sheets. Made for individual experiments or for use with (4) groups of up to (6) students. Use it to test common surfaces, do clean hands/dirty hands or clean mouth/dirty mouth tests of soap and mouthwash, or compare students' mouths to a dog's mouth, if you have a dog handy.
