Magic Moai
The first advance in Easter Island monolithic heads since the taming of electricity. We're calling it the Nightlight of the Polynesian Gods, and you can now own one your very ownse'f. This 10" tall glass replica of a Moai head statue has a plasma lamp spraying very active streamers inside. It's blue glass when at rest, but turns a rich green when activated. On a 6" x 4-3/4" x 2" high black oval base with a 6-foot power cord.

Tiny Table Lamp
On tiny tables or the desktop, this lamp throws a nice puddle of light for its size. The 4-1/4" x 3" x 1-1/2" tall base supports an 8" long gooseneck with (14) bright white LEDs at the top. Silver-plastic and chrome, with a pushbutton switch on the base, it comes with (3) "AAA" batteries. We're putting ours on top of the dresser so maybe we'll finally be able to tell what color socks we're taking out of the top drawer, but it would make a nice little reading or camping lamp. Should give 15 hours of light with fresh batteries.

The Ultra (Violet) Pocket Light
Our pocket-sized mini-flashlight has (8) ultraviolet LEDs and myriad uses, from checking for counterfeit U.S. currency to working the door at hip downtown clubs, spotting radiator and transmission fluid leaks, mineral identification, and (yes, it's true) finding scorpions in the dark. Measures 3-7/8" long x 1-1/8" hexagon, and comes with (3) "AAA" batteries for power and a canvas carrying case with a belt loop. You supply the scorpions.

A Little Lightning
Despite parental advice, here's a good reason to sit in in a dark room and think small. This Plasma Storm isn't as large as a standard plasma ball, so not only is it much more affordable -- the effect is concentrated and startling. The black plastic base has a switch. Turn it on at which point the 3" dia plastic globe (think baseball size) is filled with blue stems that flare to pink, looking like dozens of electric flowers searching for a way out. Very cool. Comes with a 6-ft power cord with transformer.

Poor Man's Luminaria
It's a little 2-1/2" square base with brushed-aluminum-look sides and a mirrored top, in the middle of which 3 colored LEDs flash on and off in individual and combination patterns. Makes a dandy base to show off crystal and cocktail glasses, but stick a large styrene coffee cup upside down over it and put it in a dark room and you have the world's cheapest multi-color light show. Line up a dozen or so on the front walk and you've got the world's first flashing multicolored luminaria show for party nights. You add (3) "AAA" batteries.

Tootin' Our Laser
We don't like to brag, but it's tough not to in a case like this. This is a wonderful pen-shaped laser pointer, 5-1/4" long, flat black or silver with gold pocket clip and head. It throws a red point a loong way (we've thrown it two city blocks at night, and it would've gone farther, but buildings got in the way). And what are we so proud of? We've seen a very similar item-not identical, mind you, but essentially the same-in one of those glossy, toys-for-grown-men catalogs. Their price? $40! We're proud not to be profit-mongers, buy it here and you can take pride in your smart shopping habits. Batteries included. (Please note color change to include silver.)

Talk To The Lamp
Call it the sound-sensitive pentaneck oscillight. The black 3-1/16" dia base holds (5) slim, steel goosenecks that terminate in translucent white ping-pong-ball-like globes. Inside, multicolored LEDs blink on and off in a random color pattern or to match the beat of the music, or your tone of voice. Has sound-sensitivity settings in case it's not as sensitive as you like. Awfully nice on a table or sound system, but could also be adapted as part of a very special hat. Two-Way Clip-On Light
The bright-white LED reading light is on a 9-1/2" long gooseneck that plugs, via a 5-foot cord, into either its 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/2" battery case with (3) "AAA" batteries (included) or into a standard auxiliary car outlet (remember when we called this a cigarette lighter?). Both the lamp and steel battery case have substantial steel clamps on them for a tight grip on a book, belt or even a hat brim. It's the sturdiest, best-quality book light we've seen in a long time.
