Set-It-And-Forget-It Gardening

Automatic plant watering is now a snap and a bargain. Just screw one of these dark-green plastic water spikes onto one of your cast-off 1- or 2-liter soda-pop bottles that you've filled with water, adjust the flow-control device that's built into the screw cap, and stick the spike a couple of inches into the dirt around the potted plant. Maintains consistent moisture without over- or under-watering. Can also be used with liquid plant food! Our each is a pack of (6) water spikes.

Look Ma, No Cords

Headphones shouldn't be connected to anything, or you could hurt yourself getting up to answer the door. These factory-reconditioned wireless cans are from RCA® and have (3) channels at 900MHz and a volume control. They come with a pair of rechargeable "AAA" batteries, a charging adapter, and a transmitter/cradle with a 7-foot input cord with a standard 1/8" miniplug connector. RADIOMETER

Another oldie but goodie. 5" high evacuated clear glass bulb mounted in a black stand, 3" in diameter at the top. A four bladed vane is balanced on a needle inside the sphere. Because opposite surfaces of the vanes are black and white, incident radiant energy is absorbed or reflected to a different degree. The result is a spinning vane. The brighter the light, the faster it spins. Simple, but compelling. Brief explanatory instruction sheet included.

No more springing forward or falling back, ever, with this talking atomic alarm clock. It sets itself from the atomic clock in Ft. Collins, Colorado, so you can forget it even before you set it. Has settings for time zone, alarm, daylight savings time and manual time adjustment. Resets automatically every evening, or push the "wave" button to refresh. Measures 5" tall x 4-1/2" wide x 3+" thick overall. We have it because, while the clock is brand new, the box may have been beaten up a little. Requires 2 "C" batteries (Not included).

Monkey Dishes

Little bowls like these are called monkey dishes in the restaurant business. Doesn't pay to ask why, we think, but they're extremely handy. These are stainless steel, 4-1/2" dia x 1-1/2" deep. They're marked "Pet Bowl," but wouldn't work for anything over kitten size. We'd use 'em for peas, paints, pickles, peanuts, paste, prune pits, like that. You run out of p's, you could use them for ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise.

Restore Your Remote

Don't toss it and buy a universal remote. (How many things are really universal, after all?) Try this jar of Keypad Fix, designed to clean and restore conductivity to the carbon on the keys and the copper PC board pads that make up the rubber-coated switches on remotes, game controllers, and security keypads. Contains enough to coat over 200 button contacts.
