Animal Vacuum
For dusty Dobermans? Nooooo. These are surprisingly powerful and effective dinner-table cleaners, called "crumbers" in the restaurant biz, except these are little battery-operated vacuum cleaners inside extremely compelling creatures. They're all about 6" long x 2-1/4" tall, with a removable filter. You pick from the hot-pink, crumb-sucking piggy; the somnolent but hungry Holstein; or the winsome, although short-trunked, baby elephant. All run on a pair of "AA" batteries, and, unlike the real thing, you push a button and remove their heads to empty them.

Another oldie but goodie. 5" high evacuated clear glass stand 3" in diameter at the top. A four bladed vane is balanced on a needle inside the sphere. Because opposite surfaces of the vanes are black and white, incident radiant energy is absorbed or reflected to a different degree. The result is a spinning vane. A Little Lightning
Despite parental advice, here's a good reason to sit in in a dark room and think small. This Plasma Storm isn't as large as a standard plasma ball, so not only is it much more affordable -- the effect is concentrated and startling. The black plastic base has a switch. Turn it on at which point the 3" dia plastic globe (think baseball size) is filled with blue stems that flare to pink, looking like dozens of electric flowers searching for a way out. Very cool. Comes with a 6-ft power cord with transformer.
