Put out Belgian fires authentically with one of these genuine fire-brigade buckets from Belgium, dating from the middle of the 20th century. All of them are heavy steel, painted fire-engine rouge, and bear the scars and dents of having attended a few incendies. We'll pick one from 11" to 14" tall (they all hold a couple of gallons). Some may have dates stamped into them, all of them are as authentic as you can get!

Olive-green plastic box with stainless steel latch and hinges, once the home of a Belgian army gas-detector kit (Gasdetectiedoos, Compleet) now comes with only its minimal dividers (one long, one clip), and possibly a leftover component or two. The sturdy plastic case is 10-3/4" x 6-3/4" x 2-3/4" deep, with a snap-down clasp and (2) 39" long canvas shoulder straps that are adjustable. Nice for a small toolbox or tackle box.

Made for the UK military, for aerial weapons ground crews. Maybe to say "Aim here," or maybe "Hey, don't shoot, this is us!" We're not sure, but we know it would make a good warning flag for wide or long loads. Measures 17-3/4" long x 3" wide in red, white and reflective gray stripes in nylon plastic. Has a 5/16" grommet on one end.

Search for zlotys on the beach, or just be the first militaria collector on your block with a USSR-era Polish army surplus mine detector. (That's a Polski armia nadwy?ka möj wykrywacz, we think.) Comes complete with (8) feet of pipe (in 2-foot sections) for getting farther from the mines, a 5-foot cord on the headphones, a log-book, a canvas carrying pouch, and a small box wrench. The downside? It's battery operated (and may even come with one or two dead ones) but not by batteries in any size we recognize, so making it operable could be a challenge.

Not a joke. These are serious vintage, U.S. Army infantry haversacks from the Spanish-American War era, made circa 1898. They're a dark khaki, 14" square x 4" thick, with drawstring closures. They have slender internal pockets along both inside edges and (2) 2" wide x 10" deep pockets bracketing a 9" wide x 10" deep pocket on the inside of the flap. The flap itself has a strap and buckle and will still bear its original stenciling, which may be "U.S.," crossed rifles, a cavalry-unit number, a combination thereof, or some other unique identification.

For running white glove tests. These are closer to a cream color, and are unused UK military surplus liner gloves for N-B-C suits, but they're nicely made, and would be quite useful as emergency opera-wear if you're in white tie but left your gloves in the Bentley. The men's Lg are labeled 8 to 8-1/2, and will be either 9-1/2" or 13" long (our choice) from fingertip to end of glove. These are also very nice painters/craft gloves for folks allergic to latex. Package of (3) pairs.

These NEW headphones are from the actual old Navy, ours, not a faux-hipster clothing outlet. Our genuine U.S. Navy headset was made in the 1950s and has 3/4" monaural drivers and 230 Ohm impedance. The 5-foot cord has a 1/4" plug at the end, and another to plug into the headset 6" from one ear. Original packaging and instructions, complete with dated pictures, included. The black-rubber earpiece covers may even have a little Korean-War-era dust on them.

Make a mess of minestrone and serve it up in style with one of these Italian military-surplus steel kitchen ladles. We'll pick either a 7-1/8" dia or 5-3/4" dia ladle with a wooden handle a bit over (2) feet long. Equally good for firehouse chili or, if you're creative and live with an arthritic hound, for attaching to the garage wall so the dog can drink from it without bending his neck.

Very lightly used Chemical Agent Monitor bag (CAM bag). Solid olive drab, padded canvas, 16" long x 6-1/2" tall x 4-1/2" deep, with an adjustable shoulder strap and hook-and-loop closures. Has a 2-1/2" x 5" x 6" pouch inside that can be flipped outside the bag and remain there when it's shut, plus (2) 2" x 7" long sleeves inside the top. Includes a couple of extra bandolier-like straps with clips and assorted pouches on them.

A different kind of canister. This one's from the Israeli army tank corps and once held a nice big piece of ordnance. Measures 23-1/2" long x 6-1/2" square (it has square blocks on a round tube) in black plastic. Internal storage space is approx 13" x 4-5/8" dia and it has a twist-off cap with a fold down handle. Got a fair amount of hose-offable dirt/mud on it, which it no doubt came by honestly.

40892 2-FT ARTILLERY SHELL CANISTER WITH CARRYING HANDLE |
Very cool absolutely useless kite-like thing consisting of a central 19" dia disc and (2) 9 ft. "tails" one emerging from each side of the central disc. The disc is actually a metal hoop. It is covered with a very light, strong non-woven fibrous material that is translucent and extremely porous, allowing water to pass right through it. The tails are made of this same material. We have been told it is some kind of drogue for a chute used with a depth charge. We are also told it was used under water. We surmise it is an underwater drogue used to deploy a detector antenna. But it may just be a toy for Merkids. We think you will find it amusing, and may wish to chop it up and use the cool fabric in your own construction. White or olive drab, our choice.
