Asymmetrical Swedish Gasbag
Our first olive-drab canvas gas mask bag from the Swedish military is 10" wide. It's approx 3" wide x 13" tall at one corner, tapering to 12" x no width (think triangle) at the other. Has a hasp and (2) snap closures, a 48" long adjustable clip-on strap, inside pockets that would hold a Boysenberry, pens, and a cell phone nicely, plus a snap-strap that could hold it on a bike. Made to hang horizontally, like most gas mask bags, with the opening on the side and the hasp in the front. Nice general-purpose alternative to a messenger's bag for 1/5 the price.

Room For A Yorkie
Direct from the French army comes this used olive-drab rubber gas mask bag in an unusual shape and size. Measures 5" square x 11" tall, with a hook-and-loop top closure, (2) deep outside pockets, a removable shoulder strap, and a couple of D-rings on the back. Sheds water and is big enough for a large thermos or a small pooch.

Leather Mittens
Shell handling mittens, from the folks who equip people to handle shells (artillery etc., not animal.) Three tasteful varieties: Grey suede with black rubberized canvas wrist gauntlet, faun with grey suede gauntlet or black with grey suede gauntlet. Thumbs on the first two oppose, but on the last they are appendages of the side seam, hence omni-lateral. An excellent fit for gorillas. Medium-ish size, with flaring gauntlets. We get to pick your style.

Really Foul-Weather Gear
Be ready for pretty much anything in this N-B-C-rated military decontamination suit. Includes cotton under-gloves, thick rubber gloves, oversized lace-up overshoes, smock, and trouser covers in size large. The kit is made in the UK, and comes in an olive drab, Dutch-made rubberized nylon carrying pouch, approx 5" x 13-1/2" x 13", with a shoulder strap and backpack connectors. The case would double as good waterproof messenger bag.

Radiation Meter
Are the kids growing up with pride? Radiating good cheer? You can tell for sure with...What? It’s for nuclear radiation? An old Civil Defense meter? Bummer. Apparently, this OCD radiation meter from the Victoreen Mfg. Co. was made to sniff out the residue of the nuclear holocaust when you emerged from your bomb shelter. Calibrated 5 r/hr (Roentgen) with a X 0.1, X1, X10, X100 sensitivity selector, it runs on (1) “D” battery (not included.) The Civil Defense yellow boxes are about 8” x 4–1/2” x 3–1/2”. It comes with complete instructions for use. The CD V–777–2 includes two 4–1/2” long x 1/2” dia dosimeters and a 2” x 4” x 4” dosimeter charger. This one is used, but it works fine, even if it looks a bit scuffed.

Masks, Gas, Russian
Assembled in the U.S. from Russian parts, anyway. What we have here is a full range of sizes in gas masks for adults and children, although frankly, the smallest of them are really more Yorkshire-terrier sized. New, but surplus, and while they're rated NBC for nuclear/biological/chemical contaminants, they carry absolutely no guarantees. These are to be used as part of a collection, or for costume/novelty purposes. The children's masks come with a 12" long hose, filter tank, defogging pencil, and carrying pouch. The Small is for faces less than 4-1/4" between cheekbones (and less than 3" from the top of the nose to the chin). Medium is for 4-1/4" to 4-1/2" (3" to 3-3/8" top of the nose to the chin). Large, from 4-3/8" to 4-5/8" (3-3/8 to 3-5/8"). Extra large, from 4-1/2" to 4-7/8" (3-5/8" to 3-7/8"). The adult's masks come with an integrated, screw-on filter canister, carrying pouch, and (6) plastic eye-lens covers. The small ones are for adults with a facial circumference (measure around the crown of the head and under the chin) of 24-3/4" or less.

Safe Suit
Stylish in a forest commando sort of way, and secure, our N-B-C protective suit is from the UK military. Separate pants and hooded shirt are about a 40 regular, or men's medium, although the pants have a more generous, and expandable, waist. (The Brits say they're for folks 5'10".) Lotsa pockets, tabs, hook-and-loop fasteners, suspenders and zippers, and they're a solid forest green, not OD. Surplus (although unworn) and manufactured in 1992, so no nuclear, biological, or chemical guarantees, OK? On the other hand, where else can you buy a new suit at this price?

Go, Suisse!
Let the rest of the world outfit its armies with rockets and tanks. We prefer Switzerland, with its Swiss Army Knife and, now, its Swiss Army Horseshoe Nails. Our each is a box of (100) shiny, flat, steel nails with square beveled heads, each head imprinted with a tiny cross. The #6 nails are 2-1/8" long. The #8s are 2-7/16" long. Even the box is a retro find. Such sticklers for details, these pacifistic Swiss.

Find Polish Metal!
Search for zlotys on the beach, or just be the first militaria collector on your block with a USSR-era Polish army surplus mine detector. (That's a Polski armia nadwy?ka möj wykrywacz, we think.) Comes complete with (8) feet of pipe (in 2-foot sections) for getting farther from the mines, a 5-foot cord on the headphones, a log-book, a canvas carrying pouch, and a small box wrench. The downside? It's battery operated (and may even come with one or two dead ones) but not by batteries in any size we recognize, so making it operable could be a challenge.

White Gloves
For running white glove tests. These are closer to a cream color, and are unused UK military surplus liner gloves for N-B-C suits, but they're nicely made, and would be quite useful as emergency opera-wear if you're in white tie but left your gloves in the Bentley. The man's Small are labeled 6 to 6-1/2, and are 8-1/2" long from fingertip to end of glove. The men's Lg are labeled 8 to 8-1/2, and will be either 9-1/2" or 13" long (our choice) from fingertip to end of glove. These are also very nice painters/craft gloves for folks allergic to latex. Package of (3) pairs.

Brass Buttons
You can tell military budgets have been cut when Russia starts selling us her uniform buttons. Our bushels of buttons are 1/2" to 1", mostly metal (brass, copper, silver), mostly Russian (with some Canadian, French, and others), all interesting and collectable. The shiny brass buttons with the stars are nice, if you don't mind a hammer and sickle. We'll pick out (10) for you, but can't promise which ones.
