Science Fare
Slightly larger than some of our hobby motors, this Mabuchi RS-365SH double-shaft motor is a good choice for science-fair projects. Its range is 6 VDC, 50 mA, 550 rpm to 24 VDC, 80 mA, 2,000 rpm. The 3/32" dia shaft extends 5/8" from the terminal end of the 1-1/2" x 1-1/16" dia motor, and 3/8" from the other end. It has (2) 5" leads.

A Lot of Pull
Here's a nice, strong pull-type solenoid that draws approx 1/2A at 24VDC, with an estimated strength of 40-50lbs. Rated for continuous duty. Coil housing measures 2-1/8" tall x 1-5/8" x 1-3/8" with a plunger that's 3-1/4" long x 1/2" dia with a 1/2" slot and 1/8" bores. Coil is not polarized. Made in the USA by Guardian Electric.

Hobby Motors
Pay yer money and take yer pick. Both are reversible, permanent-magnet, 6-12VDC motors. The Johnson version (Johnson #31942) is 1-1/4" long x 1-1/8" dia with a 1-1/16" long x 3/32" dia shaft, and a pair of 1/8" quick-disconnect tabs on the back. It operates with max efficiency at 12V, 5484 rpm and drawing .322A. Has .527 oz/in of torque. Draws approx 100mA no load. Has (2) 1/16" mounting holes on the face. The Molon is at max efficiency at 12VDC, 11,100 rpm at 1.40A. Measures 1-1/2" long x 1-1/16" dia with a 3/8" long x 3/8" dia striated shaft. Has (2) mounting holes on the face and power tabs on the back.

German Fan
This big 24 VDC German-made centrifugal fan from EBM-PAPST, originally an industrial exhaust fan, measures 9-1/2" dia x 3-3/8" thick with the motor housing protruding 7/16" from the bottom. It has (4) threaded 3/16" mounting holes, an impeller with (11) backward-curved blades, and a 22" 4-lead cable for power. It operates at 24VDC, 6 amps and has Lotsa power, our blower boffin says, and sharp; spins at 2700 rpm at full power and comes with a 10" dia x 1-1/4 thick steel inlet ring. It's mfr #R3G250-AJ64-20. Treat With Heat
Start with one naked wire or a number of them, and a piece of our clever tubing, and end up with nice, tightly covered wire. For the specific diameters below, our each is a package of (10) 12" pieces of heat-shrink tubing. For an assortment of sizes, our each is a dozen pieces of 4" long tubing. You'll get (4) pieces each in 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" diameters. All sizes are black. All will shrink to trim diameters half their current size when heated to 125°C/257°F. If only it worked on waistlines.

Brand new (made for a kiddy car ride with a big gear-box), this reversible 6-12VDC Johnson motor (#141292) draws 1.4A and spins 10,000 rpms at 12VDC. Measures 2-1/2" long x 1-1/2" dia with a 1/8" dia x 3/8" long striated shaft. Has (2) tabs on the back for hook-up and (2) mounting holes on the face.

Excellent Small Motor Skills
From Germany's Faulhaber, this 12VDC precision motor draws only 75mA no load, and has 1.9 in/oz of torque. Spins 8100 rpm. The motor measures 7/8" dia x 1-5/8" long with a 3/8" long x 1/16" dia shaft out the back and an 18-tooth, 5/16" dia sprocket on the front. There are bearings on both ends of the shaft. It's inside a 1-3/16" plastic frame the length of the motor with (4) 3/32" dia mounting holes. Works well from 3-12VDC, our motor-minded technician says, plus it's "OK for short term use up to 24VDC, and makes a pretty nice little generator, too." Has (2) 3-1/2" leads.

Our giant (approx 55" long) 9/16" wide x 23 mil thick stainless steel clamp will work down to approx 5" dia and up to approx 18" dia. Screws down good and tight.
