You remember: white cardboard frames with red and blue plastic lenses. The temples fold to 5" long. 3-D's a lot more fun in these days of the Web: go to www.howstuffworks.com for binocular disparity and rivalry tests, or just Google around to find fun stuff or school optics experiments to use these with.

Tough Models

A construction-grade Cindy Crawford? You wish. No, just difficult (and definitely not for toddlers) models/puzzles. But if you've got a building-set whiz-bang in the back seat, these 50-piece, 3-D puzzles are demanding and rewarding to assemble, plus they come in ultra-thin packages for traveling. The highly detailed, colorful pieces punch out of a couple of 6" x 4-1/2" credit-card-weight plastic sheets but assemble to sizes ranging from 4-3/4" x 3-1/2" to 8-1/2" x 4-1/2". We'll pick (2) different ones from a selection of heavy construction vehicles and nasty robo-animals (think "Rhinotank" and "Wolfborg").

Doodle In 3-D
Think of it as a shortcut to learning perspective. This clever 50-sheet pad of white, 7" x 4-1/2" paper has a fine red and blue grid pattern that shows your drawing and doodling in 3-D when you wear the included 3-D glasses. It's our candidate for the why-didn't-I-think-of-that award this year.

You've seen everybody's favorite desk toy. The one that makes you swear you can pick up the coin that's right inside it. Too bad it's really a hologram you're looking at! Now you can own this petite version of the popular "illusion" toy. This one, 6" dia x 2" tall, with a 1-5/8" opening on the top, leaves more money in your wallet and more room on your desktop. It's Such A Relief To Paint
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small Parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.
Let them paint in 3-D with these little raised-plastic reliefs of a dinosaur (either a T-Rex, stegosaurus or triceratops, our choice) or an insect (either a butterfly, dragonfly or bee, our choice). All are 4-1/2" x 2-3/4" and you get (4) little paint pots in yellow, red, blue and black, a basic brush, and a cardboard easel for display. Artistic bonus: the reliefs have a velvet-ish texture, so the result resembles a velvet Elvis, if Elvis had been an insect or a dinosaur.
