G.I. Can Openers
Newly manufactured P-38 Can Opener from the same folks who supply them to Uncle. It folds! into 1-1/2" x 5/8" flat piece which is easily carried and lost. Reportedly works much better than the Asian knockoffs for those who really want to gain entry to the Spam!

Mylar Warmth
They have the look of something designed for the space program. They're mylar, a paper-thin shiny metallic sheet, that comes in handy when your car breaks down in winter, or when you're separated from your climbing group on the slopes of Mt. McKinley. Barring that, they're also a perfect material for a do-it-yourself cold-climate Halloween costume-near impossible to rip by hand, but cut easily with scissors. There's no padding, so they wouldn't be too comfy on your bed, but they sure are warm. They both come folded about the size of a wallet. The Blanket is 52" x 82", the Sleeping Bag is 34" x 84".

Peltier Heat Pump
High tech comes to Am Sci & Surp!! It is here in the form of a Peltier junction, a thermo-electric device that translates electric power into heat, and perversely, into cool. Apply current @ 3-12 VDC to the gizmo and it extracts thermal energy from one face, thereby cooling it. The heat is dumped onto the other face, thereby heating it. Please note: you must use a heat sink on the hot side or the junction will fry itself, since it can quickly create a 65° C temperature differential in a no load situation. Stack two, or build a cascade to increase the thermal differential created. Or run it backwards. Apply heat or cold to the relevant face and produce a current. Amazing for science projects and experiments. Practical for coffee warmers, beer coolers and mini-refrigerator or warming oven applications. Comes with instructions. Large is 1-9/16" sq. x 3/16" thick.

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small Parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.
A "One gizmo does all" marvel. It really works as a binocular, magnifier/linen tester, and has a signaling mirror, and compass all in a roughly 1-1/2" sq x 3-3/4" long package. The bino eyepieces and objectives fold against the body with the objectives doubling as magnifiers when used alone. The signaling mirror makes a good examining table for bugs and seeds etc and is conveniently located under one of the lenses. It should make a good "going off to camp" gift!

There aren't that many of these flexible chopping mats, and the versatile 15" x 12" x 0.024" thick mats are not only ideal for small kitchens where every inch counts, they're great for any kitchen, and for cookouts, camping and picnics. Our each is a set of (2) of the translucent Euro-look mats that protect countertops from sharp knives and fresh-from-the-oven cookies, and protect food from outdoor surfaces. They can be lifted and slightly folded to funnel chopped food neatly into a pot. They're dishwasher safe, and roll up for portage or storage.

It just ain't gonna spill the beads. Or the fishhooks, or screws, or whatever you're storing in the 7-1/2" x 5" x 1-1/2" deep Store-in-It box. The translucent-plastic box with (1) 3-1/2" x 1-1/4" and (10) 1-3/4" x 1-1/2" compartments has a hinged lid that not only snaps shut, it has an extra little security latch. Rounded bottoms in the compartments make it easy to pluck out even the smallest items.

Throw a Net over It, Marge!
We wouldn't try to capture 'gators with it, but this 4-ft x 6-ft black nylon, elastic (not-un-bungie-like) cargo net should trap anything else in the back of the pickup, van or kids' bedrooms. Stretches to about 6' x 9', with openings that are 7" square, stretching to maybe a foot, and 16 carabiner-style plastic hooks. Or just hang a couple on a wall for a nice Spiderman effect.

Buncha Trays 'N' Lids
These are left over from those scrumptious hot meals that hospitals serve. Use the trays and lids when you're under the weather, or serving someone who is. Mix and match them, but carefully, since the round lids fit some bottoms better than others-and the 8" square x 2-7/8" deep lid don't fit nothin' we've got. On the other hand, we think the trays also make perfect indestructible flower pot saucers, and the lids, which have recessed handles so they can sit on their heads (which is more than you can do), would make nice wide planters themselves. Some of them say they can take heat and some say they can't but we're pretty sure they're talking about hospital ovens because they all do just fine warming up tortillas in the office microwave. Assorted unmatched colors (our choice).

Un-Bunsen Burner
So you don't have a gas jet in the garage? You don't think Margie and Ted are old enough to handle the high temperatures of a Bunsen burner? Our alcohol lamps are the answer. They burn alcohol (available at the hardware store), and are hot enough to boil water, to soften glass tubing for bending, and to generate the chemical reactions generally called for in science projects. The lamp is 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" glass bowl with a wick assembly that brings the whole to a height of 4-1/2" and comes with a handy little metal lid/extinguisher.

Foot Pump
You say you don't need your foot pumped up? How about your beach ball? Bicycle tire? Air mattress? Attach the quick-connect valve head of the pump and tromp away on the foot pedal.
