Gaggle of Gaskets
Black neoprene gaskets in a variety of sizes and shapes: loops, hoops and flat. Stretchy, a little dusty, but in good condition. The Small Round assortment gets you (2) gaskets, between 1/2" and 3/4" dia cross-section, in loops with overall diameters between 1 and 3 feet. The Large Round assortment is one gasket, 5/8" to 1" dia, in a 4 to 9 foot dia loop. The Flat assortment is pieces that make loops of 2 to 5 feet dia. The rubber is about 2" x 1-1/2", but the shape varies: could be square, grooved, V-shaped, or something else. Use as is for really big valves, or better yet, chop it down to size. A great way to get cheap rubber materials for your non-critical applications We'll pick the exact dimensions and, in the case of the Flat assortment, the shape you get.

Mylar Warmth
They have the look of something designed for the space program. They're mylar, a paper-thin shiny metallic sheet, that comes in handy when your car breaks down in winter, or when you're separated from your climbing group on the slopes of Mt. McKinley. Barring that, they're also a perfect material for a do-it-yourself cold-climate Halloween costume-near impossible to rip by hand, but cut easily with scissors. There's no padding, so they wouldn't be too comfy on your bed, but they sure are warm. They both come folded about the size of a wallet. The Blanket is 52" x 82", the Sleeping Bag is 34" x 84".

Tap/Die Set
Small, but mighty useful if you need a tiny tap and die set for threading wire or stripped screws. The micro set has a 3-1/4" long die plate and 14 taps (sizes 7 through 20 -- read 0.7 mm through 2.0 mm), and a mighty attractive price. A little oily in its vinyl storage pouch -- but it's all steel, after all, and has to safeguard its complexion.

Attach Anything!
You need this. Anybody who's ever made a third trip to the hardware store on the same day needs this. The (100) -- count 'em, (100) -- chrome vanadium driver and bit attachments include slotted, Phillips, square (Robertson) head, torx, hex and 12-point bits, plus security Phillips, torx and hex, and (4) different driver adapters (one of which, a super-cute cup-hook driver, has us oddly excited). They're all in a flip-top plastic case. How come it's surplus? If you turn it upside down and shake it, some of the bits fall out of their little size-marked slots. So don't do that. Or stick a thin sheet of foam inside it and all will be well.

Spring Clamps
Devices used to hold spring in place, thus ensuring eternally promis-ing, but changeable and wet weather. No? How about this then: Steel grips, spring loaded to keep their tips tightly closed on whatever you chose to target. The handles and tips have been coated with a light plastic to improve grip and provide a bit of insulation. The clamp is about 4" long x 5/8" wide and opens about 1-1/4". They have strong grips and will crush fragile items, but do a good job of holding things while the glue dries, you do the soldering, or the materials bond.

Try a convex mirror. This lightweight, chromed-plastic version measures 2-3/4" x 1-3/4" and is on a self-adhesive swivel mount. Might help you live with your car's blind spots; might be useful for other purposes, like keeping an eye on the whole room behind you, or that hidden spot in the hallway ahead of you.

Visor Organizer
About time you organized the car visor. Choose between two styles. The larger version is 11-1/4"x 6-1/2" and has (5) pockets (one with a zipper) plus slide-in sleeves for (8) CDs and elastic straps for holding it to the visor. The (only slightly) smaller one is 11-5/8" x 5-7/8" with a single zippered pocket, sleeves for (12) CDs, and a pair of hook-and-loop straps to hold it on the visor. Both are in black vinyl.

Light My Fire
C'mon baby, light someone's fire with this magnesium and flint fire-starter kit. The 3" steel hack-saw-type blade and a 3-1/8" x 3/8" x 1-1/8" hunk of magnesium, with a rod of flint embedded in one long side, are on a keychain for carrying but are easily removed from it. With the serrated edge of the blade, shave some Mg into a small pile of tinder. Strike the flint with the opposite edge to spark the tinder-Mg's interest, and you're Prometheus.
