Polished slice through a piece of agate. It will show concentric rings reminiscent of a tree trunk in colors ranging from milky white to blue to yellow to brown. Each sample is unique! Roughly 1/8" thick x up to 3" dia. Lovely.

What a drag. What used to be one of our most endearing misprints has been corrected. The motorized, hand-held device clearly labelled "mini fan" used to have only a drink mixer attachment. Now both mixer and fan tips are in the pack, as well as a super-simple fan stand. No more watching people accidentally trim their eyelashes by holding the drink mixer too close, trying to eke a breeze out of it. Yup, it's really going to be dull around here. Plastic case apprx 4" x 1-1/4" x 1" in assorted colors (our choice). Requires (2) "AA" batteries, not included.

It could have been called an Alabama Buzzer after Alabama Vest, the man who invented it. Or a Clegghorn, after Thaddeus Von Clegg, the clock master who fabricated the first one. But the hand-crafted 4-3/4" long steel instrument was a simple amusement, and the 1840s were a simple time. So it's simply a kazoo.

Mega-cool toy air cannon. Birthdays will never be the same! The instructions on the AirZooka" say it blasts a gust (ball?) of air up to 20 feet but we blew out a candle at 30 feet, and it only took us three tries. (And you can hear the near-misses as they blow past--which is the mega-cool part.) Plastic, 11" dia x 10 1/2" deep, like a bucket with a pistol grip and a fold-down sight. The (3) segments unscrew and collapse for storage between birthdays. We'll pick fluorescent blue, green, magenta or orange, and you'll need two if you want to have air wars.

Or singing suppositories. The pair is very magnetic, whatever they are. The 1-3/4" long oblate spheroids look like highly polished black hematites. Hold them an inch apart in your palm, toss 'em into the air and listen to them make a sound like the cyber-crickets. Or an electrocuted chicken. The manufacturer suggests keeping these mega-magnets away from computers, pacemakers, TV sets and credit cards.

Along with five of your friends with these new-age-appropriate chokers-unless you're all interior linemen, in which case these are bracelets. They're made of braided twine, 19-1/2" long, each with at least a couple of beads. The one we saw had (3) large multi-color-embedded-in-black ceramic beads, but yours may differ. Made in India.

The manufacturer calls it the Thunder Tube". We call it indispensable for the amateur Foley operator. It's a 7" long x 2-1/2" dia PVC tube with a resonant head at one end attached to a 17" long x 3/16" dia extension spring. Shake it, scrape it, wiggle it, use your palm to muffle it and you generate creaks, deep warbles, rumbles, weird heterodyne-ish gong effects, wa-wa's, rude noises, and, yes, realistic thunder. A perfect musical companion to your cuica and rain stick--and good, clean fun around the house. Don't make a sound-track without it.
