Sun-Powered Science Projects
Since we don't want to spend our golden years pouring gold into the pockets of Middle Eastern oil cartels and homegrown utility companies, we encourage science students to explore solar cells. Exposed to light, even these small modules will power DC motors, charge batteries, or run an eye-popping science project. 92481 is 2-9/16" x 3-5/8". All are enclosed and have leads.

Magnificent magnifier lamp! Great for hobby work, stamp or coin collecting, needlepoint, sewing and crafts, even reading if your eyes are "mature". The plastic "head" assembly has a 3.5" dia, 3 diopter magnifying lens and a socket with switch for an incandescent lamp (60 Watt max.) This is mounted on the end of an arm the other end of which clamps to the table top. The arm has (2) roughly 15" long sections and swivels at the clamp to allow precise positioning over your work. Mega-cool toy air cannon. Birthdays will never be the same! The instructions on the AirZooka" say it blasts a gust (ball?) of air up to 20 feet but we blew out a candle at 30 feet, and it only took us three tries. (And you can hear the near-misses as they blow past--which is the mega-cool part.) Plastic, 11" dia x 10 1/2" deep, like a bucket with a pistol grip and a fold-down sight. The (3) segments unscrew and collapse for storage between birthdays. We'll pick fluorescent blue, green, magenta or orange, and you'll need two if you want to have air wars.

Duck-billed Locking Pliers
Welders and other people with marketable skills know that these are sheet metal clamps, but the rest of us treasure the sundry other wonders they perform. (Wasn't that poetically put?) The handles lock, and the 3" wide jaws are just ducky at straightening out bent stuff, taking cookie sheets out of hot ovens, clamping oddly-shaped things with even pressure while the glue dries, snapping tile or glass after scoring it, and thumbscrew tightening. Made for Michigan Industrial Tools of drop-forged chromed steel, 8" long.

This heat-dispersing device that used to live in a computer has a removable 12VDC 450mA Nidec muffin fan-2-3/4 square x 9/16" with power and tach leads and four mounting screws at the corners. This is attached to a 3-1/4" x 2-3/4" x 1-5/8" aluminum box and grill, open on three sides, and a copper heat sink that's 3-1/4" x 2-3/4" x approx 1/4" thick. The whole shebang is held in a plastic bracket with a swing-out handle, ready to disperse some heat.
