21st Century Walking Stick
Walking sticks have moved into the space age! This walker's/hiker's friend has futuristic features and the look of an inter-galactic weapon. The high-quality collapsible aluminum stick extends from a packable 27" to a full 56", and has a carbide tip with a rubber cover, a removable 2" dia disk to keep the stick from sinking into soft ground, and an internal shock absorber that can be turned on or off. At the top, a 5-LED flashlight with a 90° pivot is embedded in a molded-plastic cane-style handle to light your way. For mountain trekking, lengthen the stick, slip the adjustable canvas wrist strap over your hand, and clutch the stick by the padded foam section below the cane handle. Directions, diagrams, and 1100mm to 1350mm gradations are marked clearly on the 3-draw pole. We'll pick a black or anodized red, green, blue, silver or purple version for you.

A bright little flashlight with (8) super-bright white LEDs in a circle and a less-than-5mW red laser right in the middle. One click and it's a flashlight, another click and it's a laser pointer. Looks like a cheap kid-sized tennis racket, but brother, this ain't for the kids. It's actually a fine way for adults to work on their upper-body strength and kill bugs at the same time. 18" long, with a 6" wide paddle lined with metal grid. A coil in the handle sends high voltage through the paddle when a button is pushed, hit a bug with it and the bug will bug you no more. But despite the manufacturer's claims that it's safe for people, Scott reports that flesh-paddle contact delivers a nasty shock, nasty enough to say "Keep this away from kids!" We've seen these in other catalogs for about twice the price, so buy it from us. Just be careful with it. 2 AA batteries, not included.

They call it the IQ Clip, because it remembers better than you do. It's a thin little electronic LCD clock and alarm with a clip (to hook it on a file, belt or pocket) and a magnetic back (to stick it to a file cabinet or kitchen appliance). It has a 15-minute resolution and can be set for any time up to 99 days in the future. The same-day alarm will give you four reminders; the future-date alarm will warn you every 15 minutes for up to 24 hours in advance. It's like your mother, but with a snooze button. We'll choose a 2-3/8" x 3/4" x 5/8" thick IQ Clip in pastel blue or yellow for you.

Helping Hands... and Eyes
We just wish there was something, anything, to do around here that required this thing, on account of it's so cool. Our newest Helping Hand has a pair of alligator clips on swiveling arms, likewise a 2-1/4" dia x 1.5X magnifier plus an LED flashlight on a gooseneck. Everything swivels every way there is and tightens with little thumbscrews-and some of the configurations look like it's maybe alive, and from Venus. Jewelry makers? Diamond cutters? Forensic scientists? Maybe we'll start making small electronics, or tying flies.

Light My Fire
C'mon baby, light someone's fire with this magnesium and flint fire-starter kit. The 3" steel hack-saw-type blade and a 3-1/8" x 3/8" x 1-1/8" hunk of magnesium, with a rod of flint embedded in one long side, are on a keychain for carrying but are easily removed from it. With the serrated edge of the blade, shave some Mg into a small pile of tinder. Strike the flint with the opposite edge to spark the tinder-Mg's interest, and you're Prometheus.
