The Talking Doorbell
Call it a toy that's not a toy. The "Say What?" wireless doorbell is marketed to kids for their rooms, but is equally useful for the houses, apartments and offices of people with a sense of humor. Put the 2" x 5-5/8" x 1-3/4" bell unit on the outside, mount the 5-18" x 3-1/2" x 1-1/2" receiver inside up to approx 30 feet away. (Ignore the 50-feet instructions on the packaging.) You record a digital 10-second greeting, or warning, that plays to the bell-pusher when the bell is pressed. Inside, you hear one of (4) preprogrammed sounds: a meow; circus music; dance music; or a voice saying "Here comes trouble." Units have two volume levels. Requires (2) "AA" batteries for the bell (included, but likely dead) plus (3) C-cells, not included, for the receiver. Includes mollies and double-sided tape for mounting. Can be used for outside entrances, but we'd suggest only in protected areas.

Snazzy Little Notebooks
With ballpoint pens. The covers are approx 4" square x 1/2" thick in metallic leatherette vinyl with snap closures. Inside is a 4" black-ink pen in a keeper, a 64-sheet pad of white notepaper, and a small sleeve to hold finished notes or business cards. So snazzy that they're pre-priced at $6.50. Means "staining stand" or "color rack" in German, and we think it's some sort of lab gizmo, but in English it translates to a nice, heavy glass dish 8-5/8" x 5-7/8" x 2-1/8", with a 1/4" thick wall. It comes with an adjustable, rectangular metal frame, 6-1/2" to 11" x 2-1/2" x 3-1/8", that fits over it. The dish looks suitable to bake in to us, and carries the Assistent logo. It's certainly a good serving dish, and with a few rubber bands the rack could be a watercolor brush stand/cleaner. Or you could open a German staining lab.

Zig-A-Roos are little, 1/2" dia x 5/8" high doodads with flashing red LEDs inside and button-sized discs on the back. Available in assorted colors, they're made to push through the holes in those fashionable rubber clogs whose name rhymes with "rocks" so you can have flashy feet. No rubber clogs? No problem, the little discs also fit into a standard buttonhole so you can accessorize nearly anything. Push the lens to turn on, push again to turn off. They run on a button cell battery, included along with a spare. We'd get a bunch.

Storage Carrier Hanging Thingum
It's supposed to be a tool organizer for the garage or basement wall, but we like this sturdy gray-nylon-canvas and clear-vinyl hanging storage thingum for lots of other uses. It would function nicely on a closet or office wall or even on the back of a baby stroller (we'd use zip-ties to mount it there). Measures 24" x 16-1/2" wide and has (2) 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 9" deep pockets at the top plus a 14" wide x 8" x 9-1/2" deep pocket below that. It has metal corner inserts with keyhole slots in all four corners. Hang it full length, or fold it in half if it's not full.
