This excellent educational kit comes with (9) 0.5VDC solar cells pre-wired in sets of (3) and mounted in a 5" x 4" x 7/16" black-plastic frame with screw terminals on the bottom. The kit includes a 1.5VDC motor with leads and a mount, a fan blade and (4) plastic discs from 5/8" dia to 2" dia for mounting on the motor shaft, a 1.5V incandescent bulb with leads, a sound module with leads, and graphic cards to mount on the discs. Comes with a 14-page instruction/experiment booklet, including info on increasing voltage and amperage, powering battery charges, radios, games, etc. Lots of science project potential. This 4-5/8" dia clear-plastic sphere contains a non-replaceable but rechargeable NiCad battery, a 2" square solar panel to keep it charged up, and a rubber-coated power switch. It comes with a constant white LED or a flashing multi-color LED inside it. It's maintenance-free, turning off and on as the ambient light waxes and wanes. You could toss a bunch into the pool for some floating cocktail-party elegance, but it does have a small mount on the top if you want to hang it from a tree. Usable in temperatures of -40°F to 140°F, made of amorphous silicon thin film, its initial power rating is 18 W (1.2A output at 15 V). Long-term stabilized power rating is 1A at 14.5W.
