Since we don't want to spend our golden years pouring gold into the pockets of Middle Eastern oil cartels and homegrown utility companies, we encourage science students to explore solar cells. Exposed to light, even these small modules will power DC motors, charge batteries, or run an eye-popping science project. 92481 is 2-9/16" x 3-5/8". All are enclosed and have leads.

This excellent educational kit comes with (9) 0.5VDC solar cells pre-wired in sets of (3) and mounted in a 5" x 4" x 7/16" black-plastic frame with screw terminals on the bottom. The kit includes a 1.5VDC motor with leads and a mount, a fan blade and (4) plastic discs from 5/8" dia to 2" dia for mounting on the motor shaft, a 1.5V incandescent bulb with leads, a sound module with leads, and graphic cards to mount on the discs. Comes with a 14-page instruction/experiment booklet, including info on increasing voltage and amperage, powering battery charges, radios, games, etc. Lots of science project potential. This nice solar cell is made to prevent battery drain in cars, boats, snowmobiles (or anything else with a 12-volt) during storage or because you're running stuff like cell phones, laptops, or various pods off of said battery. Our compact radio is green in every sense of the word. Measures a minute 3" x 3-1/4" x 2" in green plastic, gets AM, FM and weather bands, and is powered by a solar cell on top or a hand-cranked dynamo that tucks into the back. (One minute of turning gets 20 minutes of power.) Has a 5-draw, 8-3/4" antenna, front speaker, and a standard 1/8" headphone jack.

Our medium solar panel is mounted in an aluminum frame and rated at 12VDC with a max voltage (no load) of 15.8. Measures just under 12" x 9-1/2" x 1" and has leads of approx 15 feet. Short-circuit current is 360mA. Composition is monocrystalline silicon. Working temp is -49°F to 185°F. Our larger panel is mounted in an aluminum frame and measures 15-7/8" x 13-3/8" x 1-1/8". Rated at 12VDC with a max output voltage (no load) of 17.6 and current of .88A. Short circuit current is 0.9A. Working temp is -49°F to 185°F and the output is through a covered terminal box on the back. No wiring.
