A Working Wonder
If we had a category just for customers who lust after Jules Verne inventions and elegant gadgetry, this would be in it. The wonderful brass sundial, a reproduction of an antique, is approx 3" dia x 11/16" thick overall, and actually works! A latitudinal gauge lets you tilt the engraved dial to the correct angle for your location, and a bubble and three leveling feet allow the 1-1/2" dia lock-down compass to point in the precise direction. And if you never took it out into the sunshine, you'd still love it for the look and logic of it.

And we did it ourselves with this little mat cutter and self-healing cutting mat. The dual-blade mat cutter has a comfy rubber handle and a removable bevel for clean 45° cuts. The blade adjusts to 9/16" deep and is 4-1/2" long OA, and replacement blades are standard stock in art supply stores. The hard rubber cutting mat is self-healing and no, we don't know how it does that. It's 11-3/4" x 8-3/4" x 1/8" thick, marked with 1/8" and 5mm increments and 1/2" squares, and lines for 45° and 60° cuts.

The Green Hornet's Laser
Because the Red Hornet's laser pointers are a dime a dozen. The green ones are a serious step up in manufacturing costs -- plus this one is very impressive, with a visible green beam in the dark. Use it under the stars for astronomy classes. Point out a building's finer points during architectural tours. Amuse your audience during dull, illustrated lectures in big, dim auditoriums. Picasso's Pal
This clever little artist's brush holder/cleaner will keep those oil or watercolor brushes standing up (or down) straight with their little heads under water or paint thinner, clean and un-bent until you need them. A 4" dia x 2" deep aluminum cup is topped by a 6" tall U-shaped handle with a brush-holding spring across the top. Inside the cup is a mesh screen (with its own handle) for to clean the paint off and let it settle to the bottom, away from the bristles. The handle is removable for storage or travel.
