Mylar Warmth
They have the look of something designed for the space program. They're mylar, a paper-thin shiny metallic sheet, that comes in handy when your car breaks down in winter, or when you're separated from your climbing group on the slopes of Mt. McKinley. Barring that, they're also a perfect material for a do-it-yourself cold-climate Halloween costume-near impossible to rip by hand, but cut easily with scissors. There's no padding, so they wouldn't be too comfy on your bed, but they sure are warm. They both come folded about the size of a wallet. The Blanket is 52" x 82", the Sleeping Bag is 34" x 84".

Adapting to AC-Surplus Transformations
There is an entire class of transformers that surplus dealers call "AC Adapters." What we really mean is transformers that plug directly into the wall (primary voltage 110 VAC), and via a cord and/or plug provide various levels of output current at variou s voltages. It is a rare buyer of surplus that gets the plug configuration he/she wants, and many get snipped off (plugs that is). They are handy power supplies, battery charging units, substitutes for batteries in toys and games, or for providing safe il lumination to models and displays. Be sure to note whether the output is AC or DC (Direct Current, like a battery) and whether it can provide enough current for your application. Unless otherwise noted, all are suitable for indoor use only. Stick with us and you'll get the hang of adapting to AC...and at much lower prices than your friendly appliance/game/computer/calculator shop asks. Unless otherwise noted, all adapters are for 115 volt AC primaries, and all have about 6 ft. cords. (MA=Milliamp) (A=Ampere) (VDC= Volts DC) (VAC= Volts AC).

AIRCRAFT CABLE
Stop picturing a fat cable you can use to tie down an airplane. This is great 20–strand twisted cable from the aircraft industry, but at 1/16” dia, it’s sized more for a Chicago Cub than a Piper Cub. The cable is high–quality stainless steel, unjacketed and very strong. Use it to hang extremely heavy mirrors, make repairs, create bendable metal sculptures! Order by 15–foot hanks. Enjoy!

Designed for watchmakers, this aluminum loupe with a 1" dia, 10x glass lens snugs to your eye, but leaves your hands free, thanks to the flexible 15" headband that encircles your head. The kids need presents for all the grandmas and great-aunts? You volunteer at the nursing home and need token gifts for your L-O-Ls? And your eyes aren't so good, either? Our each is really half a dozen pretty little magnifiers with round lenses and fancy handles. The handles are silver-bright (hard to believe they're aluminum) and all different. Each has a discreet hole in the tip for a jump ring so it could be worn on a necklace -- but it would look just as pretty on a desk. The overall length of the (6) magnifiers varies from about 3-3/4" to 5", the lenses from 1-1/4" to 1-3/4" dia. All are approx 2X magnification. Mary Ann's pick of the month.

A Working Wonder
If we had a category just for customers who lust after Jules Verne inventions and elegant gadgetry, this would be in it. The wonderful brass sundial, a reproduction of an antique, is approx 3" dia x 11/16" thick overall, and actually works! A latitudinal gauge lets you tilt the engraved dial to the correct angle for your location, and a bubble and three leveling feet allow the 1-1/2" dia lock-down compass to point in the precise direction. And if you never took it out into the sunshine, you'd still love it for the look and logic of it.

Plush Pouch
Direct from the U.S. Army, this desert-tan nylon pouch was made to hold a 2-qt non-sloshing bladder canteen. So authentic that it probably will have the original stenciling and user's name on it. Has a plastic latch, belt clips, an adjustable and detachable 42" shoulder strap. The cushy fake-fur lining insulates it in the winter. Wet the lining for a cooling effect in hot weather. Measures 8-1/4" x 7" x 3" with a little 3" x 2-1/4" pocket on the front. (Water purification tablets?) Don't carry water? It'd make a nice, warm traveling gerbil habitat. (There's even a drain hole in the bottom.)
