Scary Molds
These white porcelain molds from the balloon industry are, frankly, the scariest medical-looking non-medical items we've seen in a long time. They come in all sorts of sizes, mostly from 5" to 10" long, and a bunch of shapes: rounds, ovals, screws, rods, storks, mouse heads, all on shafts with a threaded end to screw into the balloon machine. They're a surrealist's dream, the answer to an avant-garde sculptor's prayers, and great items to leave in your medicine cabinet for nosy guests to find. Sorry we can't fill requests for particular shapes. It's all we can do to pick out (3) different ones for your package of (5), so try not to make Kathleen feel bad by begging for mouse ears. We've got rocks by the box. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice of our gallimaufry of geological goodies. The Mohs Kit is a mineral hardness scale set, with (9) specimens: gypsum, talc, calcite, fluorite, apatite, orthoclase, quartz, topaz and corundum. The Mineral Kit has (15) specimens: fluorite, microline, feldspar, hematite, pyrite, calcite, magnetite, talc, pyrolusite, graphite, milky quartz, mica, satin spar, selenite and alabaster gypsum. The Rock Kit has (15) specimens, (5) each of igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic rock types. All kits include a small magnifier, tray and instruction pamphlet. The Mohs and Mineral Kits also come with a nail and ceramic streak plate.

The $10 Chain Saw
No gas or electricity needed for this pocket-sized manual chain saw, the camper's pal. It's 30" long overall, with (82) spring-steel teeth on the 18-1/2" middle section, and canvas loop handles on each end. Imagine a cross between a sharpened bike chain and a garotte. It's easy to use (we tested it), works a whole lot faster than a hatchet, rolls up into no space at all, and stores in the heavy-duty canvas belt pouch that comes with it.

Fifty-Pound Bags
For fifty pounds of stuff. These are made for alfalfa seed, and even empty are a gardener's friend, or lend a retro, back-on-the-farm look to the right spot. They measure 30" x 14" with open tops and tear-open tabs on the bottoms, and are 4-ply, with (3) paper layers sandwiching a plastic layer. The never-used bags have assorted seed-company logos on the exterior. Some may have discolorations on the outside.
