LEDs By The Dozen
Light emitting diodes. Solid state devices that provide the ubiquitous power and indicator lights on your electronic gadgetry. Unlike lamps, there are no filaments that glow. Rather, some two volts of DC power at a miniscule 10 to 20 milliamps of current get the chemistry excited, and they just plain emit. Emit is a good word, too, as they don't really cast light, but glow brightly. We have a nice assortment of 3 and 5 MM diameter sizes in red, green, orange, and yellow. The longer lead is always positive, the shorter always negative, and you always need a current limiting resistor (about 500 to 1,000 ohms for 5 to 9 volt DC sources) to keep the current in the 10-20 MA range. If that's Greek to you you're either going to blow a lot of LED's or learn to change incandescent indicator lamps ! !

Battery Holders
We have a number of battery holders, constantly changing in detail. They may be plastic, they may be metal. They all have either simple short wire leads or connection points. In all cases, they hold a number of batteries and connect them internally in series. The table shows the number and type of batteries held, the final voltage, material, lead type and price.

An LED that really shines. The red LED is configured with a resistor and works at 9-12 volts. It's held by a 1-5/8" bracket behind a 1-1/4" x 7/16" x 5/16" deep SPST slide switch, and has (2) 4" leads. All ready to roll.

All from GB® (Gardner Bender) or IDEAL® all bargains. The small SPST toggle switch, 1" x 1/2" x 1/2", has a switchplate, 3/8" bat, and 5-1/2" leads. Both panel mount DPST toggle switches, 1-3/8" x 3/4" x 1-1/8" OA, work with larger motors or appliances. Has screw terminals on the bottom and mounting hardware. The 1-1/8" x 5/8" x 1" deep OA momentary SPDT toggle switch, center off, is for back-and-forth switching, as with a winch. It's 3/4 HP max. Includes mounting hardware.
