The classic swinging balls, to amuse you on slow days in the office or physics lab, and to demonstrate Newton's Third Law. Drop one of the five hanging balls, one flies out from the other end; drop two and two fly out; drop three and it's amazing. The balls are set in a 7" x 9" x 9" high wooden frame. Isaac didn't invent these mesmerizing toys, by the way. That took Simon Prebble (whom some of you may remember as the evil Martin Chedwyn on "As the World Turns") who had an energy transference inspiration in 1967. (Where else can one learn these things?)

Absolutely incredible device! The MirageĀ®, a precision optical instrument, creates three-dimensional images of objects of your choice where there is nothing. Drop pennies, keys or similar small objects (your sister won't fit) into the 2-3/8" dia opening of this 9" dia x 3" high flying-saucer-shaped disc, and a perfect image of the object will appear floating above it. The image is so real friends will try to grasp it, but their fingers will close on thin air! Use it as a high-tech centerpiece with a flower as the object! A booklet (included) explains the magic. New coating provides protection for the mirror surfaces. Highly recommended. Made in the USA.

Suction bugs - and bats, salamanders and other creatures - will make fun pets mounted in the corner of your monitor, on the monitors of all your friends, and on mirrors, windows, car windows and refrigerator doors. The rubber creatures are a variety of bright colors, about 3" long, with 5/8" suction cups on their undersides. Our each is a pack of (25). We at A.S.&S., of course, are going to stick hooks through the suction cups and hang them on our Christmas tree....

This sinister device seems at first glance to be an innocent ping-pong ball. Touch both of the metal strips on the weighted bottom, however, and a circuit closes, making the ball flash red and moan eerie electronic sounds. Can be used to illustrate the idea of an electric circuit to children-show how electricity can flow through a chain of people holding hands, or that a little dampness can improve conductivity, et cetera. Powered with two watch batteries (included) so there is no danger of shock.

Black and white sand in a viscous colored fluid. The sand and fluid are between 5-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high panes of glass, framed on a gimbaled stand. Flip the panel and watch the sand swirl and eddy into endlessly new pictures of dunes, drifts, mountains or moonscapes, depending on your imagination and the pattern they form. The mix of black and white creates a definite third dimension to the images. Pretty neat, as these things go.

A "One gizmo does all" marvel. It really works as a binocular, magnifier/linen tester, and has a signaling mirror, and compass all in a roughly 1-1/2" sq x 3-3/4" long package. The bino eyepieces and objectives fold against the body with the objectives doubling as magnifiers when used alone. The signaling mirror makes a good examining table for bugs and seeds etc and is conveniently located under one of the lenses. It should make a good "going off to camp" gift!

Executive toy consisting of a translucent plastic container, roughly 4" wide 6-3/4" tall x3/4" thick mounted on a swivel on a stand. The container has (1) clear and (2) colored, translucent immiscible fluids. Flip the container on the swivel and an ever changing series of blips and blops of color drift slowly down from the top to the bottom while bubbles and steams of clear rise from bottom to top. A mix of colors results as the blobs appear singly or overlap: red and blue single colors also yield purple patterns. Fascinating.

For welcome-back baskets or holiday gifts, or anytime you want to recognize several teachers -- these old-fashioned school bells with "A+ Teacher" on them are attached to 1" dia key rings. Each 2-1/2" long wooden bell is shaped on the front and flat on the back -- and the reason you're getting it at this price is that it might need a bit of white glue on the peg that holds the handle on it. Small price to pay, to pay a small price!

PC purists please move on to other items. This book is an exact reprint of 1882 and 1887 editions: "American Girls Handy Book": How to amuse yourself and others. This book is absolutely crammed with ideas for activities, craft projects, information about nature and the world around us as well as charming Victoriana from the founders of boy and girl scouting. A real gift from Great Great Grandma's attic. Both you and the kids will adore them and use them constantly, and we think members of both genders will enjoy both books in today's world.
