And we did it ourselves with this handy self-healing cutting mat. The hard rubber cutting mat is self-healing and no, we don't know how it does that. It's 11-3/4" x 8-3/4" x 1/8" thick, marked with 1/8" and 5mm increments and 1/2" squares, and lines for 45° and 60° cuts.

Bargain Post-it Notes

Want To Just Punch Something?
Well, here you go. This very high-quality punch set is made for leather, faux-leather, hardboard, soft wood, paperboard, plastics and soft metals. Includes (9) sharp-edged punches (3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 25/32", 1", 1-1/4") that screw onto the heavy-duty driver. A spring-loaded guide holds the punch 3/16" above the material, ready for you to give it a whack with a hammer or the heel of your hand for a good, clean cut. Comes in a black-plastic carrying case.

(Locking) Syringes
Or sort-of-locking. Push the plunger down and they lock in place, but push the 1/8" nipple down on a hard surface and they'll unlock for re-use. Handy in the shop or craft room for oil, grease, paints, and glues. (Also quite useful for getting liquid medication into the dog.) They measure 3-1/2" long x 9/16" dia and hold 5ml, are graduated in .2ml increments, and have threaded tops. Note the throwaway price.

This clever little artist's brush holder/cleaner will keep those oil or watercolor brushes standing up (or down) straight with their little heads under water or paint thinner, clean and un-bent until you need them. A 4" dia x 2" deep aluminum cup is topped by a 6" tall U-shaped handle with a brush-holding spring across the top. Inside the cup is a mesh screen (with its own handle) for to clean the paint off and let it settle to the bottom, away from the bristles. The handle is removable for storage or travel.

Cut Right To It
This all-purpose scissors is the favorite of everyone at A.S.&S.: Pat uses his to cut and strip wire. C.J. uses his to slit the tape on packages. Mary Ann uses hers to open bags of pretzels. It's 6-1/4" long overall, with a very sharp 2" stainless steel blade and large, comfortable handles. It would sell for $9.95 retail if it was new, but it was used for one day to cut cloth in the assembly plant of a major car company, then discarded. Quality control is a wonderful thing.

It's a smaller version of those hair tonic bottles of yore that barbers kept to splash witch hazel on gents' necks. Clear glass, approx 6 oz/175 ml, stands 6-7/8" tall x 2-1/8" dia at the bottom, with a 1" dia neck, 3/4" ID. Comes with a cork, although it will also accept a screwcap.
