And teach a kid (8 and up) the basics of solar power. This excellent educational kit comes with (9) 0.5VDC solar cells pre-wired in sets of (3) and mounted in a 5" x 4" x 7/16" black-plastic frame with screw terminals on the bottom. The kit includes a 1.5VDC motor with leads and a mount, a fan blade and (4) plastic discs from 5/8" dia to 2" dia for mounting on the motor shaft, a 1.5V incandescent bulb with leads, a sound module with leads, and graphic cards to mount on the discs. Comes with a 14-page instruction/experiment booklet, including info on increasing voltage and amperage, powering battery charges, radios, games, etc. Lots of science project potential. Heads And Arms Above The Rest

We hardly know where to start. What has (5) heads and (10) arms? Our bag-o-blondes! Mounted on 4-3/4" long wires, these 1-3/8" dia heads with long blond tresses and the 1" long forearms with hands make very nice small dolls. Serious crafters will appreciate the instructions that are included for making dresses for them. The less serious will realize that sticking a head and a pair of hands into the top of a cake (mid-popping out, as it were) would make those office birthdays a little more special. The twisted will just have fun with vegetables. (You'll never play with that potato-head guy again.) Our each, at a measly buck and a quarter, is enough heads and arms for (5) dolls. Or (5) cupcakes.

Why The Blank Face?
So you can decorate it, you crafty thing. This tan-colored papier mache mask is 8-3/8" tall x 5-3/8" wide at the eyes, pretty much the size of your average human face. The side curves around so the mask is 1-3/8" deep. The material is 1/32" thick and very sturdy. Not crafty? Left unpainted, the mask has a certain spooky charm.

Shaker-esque Paddle Boat

'Tis a gift to be simple, they said, and this little wooden paddle boat is one of the original simple toys. Measures 5-3/4" long x 2-1/2" wide x 11/16" thick in varnished pine with a rubber band-driven paddlewheel. We're even throwing in (3) rubber bands so you'll have spare power supplies. Ages 5 and up.

Accountant In A Jar
Or in the lid, actually. Jobar's Money Machine is a clever little bank that counts your change as you put it through the slot on top, and keeps a running total up to $999.99. (That's more than the jar will hold, of course, but you could always attach the lid to a 55-gallon drum.) Measures 6-3/4" tall x 3-1/2" dia in clear plastic, and you add a pair of "AA" batteries. Counts quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies only.

Geyser Gonna Love This

The geyser's little helper: you screw this 6" threaded and capped plastic tube onto a 2-liter plastic bottle of diet pop (not included) and fill it with Mentos® mints (included!). Pull the trigger pin and the mints drop while you watch it erupt in 25 feet of scientific deliciosity. The instructions say to select "an outdoor location," but we think that takes half the fun out of it.

Zig-A-Roos are little, 1/2" dia x 5/8" high doodads with flashing red LEDs inside and button-sized discs on the back. Available in assorted colors, they're made to push through the holes in those fashionable rubber clogs whose name rhymes with "rocks" so you can have flashy feet. No rubber clogs? No problem, the little discs also fit into a standard buttonhole so you can accessorize nearly anything. Push the lens to turn on, push again to turn off. They run on a button cell battery, included along with a spare. We'd get a bunch.
