Usborne Computer Books basic book for beginners discussing adding all kinds of add-ons and interfaces from cameras and software to faxes, games and even robot drives. Although the book was first published in 1984 and is thus a bit dated in some details, the overall concepts remain entirely valid. Written for the lay person, lavishly illustrated, it is a good way to fill beginning voids in knowledge and overcome the fear of moving forward, as well as to understand what is happening when you do. 48pp Paperback.

Needle File Set
Miniature 5–1/2" steel needle files. They come in the usual assortment of flat, wedge, triangular, and round shapes, (10) in all. They seem to be pretty uniformly fine with none that we would call coarse. Made in China, they come in a vinyl carrying case that snaps shut. Not as classy as some of the sets we have seen in the $18.00 range, but perfectly serviceable for most applications. And at a third the price.

It's 16pp and sold for $6.95 in bookstores. It comes with a package of $100 worth of shredded U.S. currency to break their little hearts. And no, the $100 isn't all from the same bills, so tell them not to bother piecing the shreds together. (On the other hand, trying it could tie them up for a quiet month or two, so we'd let them go ahead.)
