Tough Paper Trays
And lots of ‘em. These coated paper trays are microwave-safe. In fact, they’re very much like the ones used for some commercial frozen entrees, but we draw the line at claiming they’re food-ready or food-safe. At these prices, though, they’d make great lab trays, paint palettes or craft containers for schools—or any place else you need a lot of tough little disposable trays. They measure 8” x 6-3/8” x 1-3/16” deep and are off-white inside, bright orange/red on the outside.

The originals from the '50s bring $75 or so on Ebay, but you can get your own brand-new, latter-day cymbal-clanging primate in a little red hat for a fraction of that. Approx 7-1/2" tall, runs on (2) "AA" batteries (not included) with a power switch under his monkey bottom.

Interesting wire contraption that we played with as a child. A series of (4) tiers of overlapping and intertwined brass wire semicircular hoops are anchored at the open end to a pair of full circles. The whole can be shaped into a tube, double balls, a flower petal, etc, depending upon what areas are opened, which closed. A variety of colored beads on the hoops add a decorative touch. Fun, intriguing and decorative all at the same time.

Going Bananas?

Wanna start your own banana republic? Luckily, we have here the Banana Farm", a plastic terrarium complete with soil, seeds, pebbles, instructions, and a toy monkey (or possibly a lemur), all of which are necessary to grow "the world's largest herb." The terrarium is 7-3/4" x 4-1/4" X 6" tall. Plants will take 3 to 8 weeks to germinate, but can grow a foot in the first month. Careful transplanting into larger pots can, they say, result in plants 8-15 feet tall in 9 months. Careful relocation to a tropical clime, or a thermostat set high enough, might even result in bananas - but we wouldn't bet the banana farm on it.

DRINKING BIRD

A rather dumb looking 6" bird with a felt covered head and has plastic feet. Worse, he cannot get his fill of water. You buy the drinks. Fluid inside condenses from the evaporative cooling of the water off the bird's beak, making it top heavy and dunking it back into the water. The condensate rejoins the liquid pool in the bird's bulb, and he tips up again. Process continues indefinitely. It works, but it's not any more than moderately well made, and not any more than moderately priced. WARNING! The fluid and dye inside the bird can permanently stain, and the bird's glass body can easily be broken. Children are fascinated by the bobbing bird, and the educational possibilities are great. But they should watch it, not fondle it!!
