Skinny Zip-Ties
More subtle than regular white zip-ties, these dark green ties were made to blend in with floral leaves and stems, but are unobtrusive wherever you use them. And the (75) pieces, all 3/32" wide, give you (35) 3-3/4" long, (20) 5-1/2" long, and (20) 8" long ties. Handy to have around.

Dowel rod, pine. Finished in a light varnish. Measures 30" long x 3/4" dia, with (1) flat-cut and (1) slightly rounded end. Like the handle for those one-hand brooms that bellboys used in old movies, or the body of a small hobbyhorse. We'll send (4) for less than a buck each. You can't beat that with a stick.

Science Project Motor & Gearbox
Great for roboticists, too. It's a mighty-mite, this little 6VDC 45 RPM motor with a right-angle gearbox. Draws 13mA, no load, and stalls at 120mA. Output is through (2) double-flattened 1/4" dia x 3/16" long shafts on opposite sides of the white plastic housing, both with 1/16" dia center holes. Measures 1-7/8" x 7/8" overall. Gear ratio is 228:1.

A Drive Train From Scratch
Build your own. This is a very nice kit from Tamiya, but not for beginners or the fumble-fingered, since it’s fairly complex and can take a couple hours to assemble. The Twin Gear Motor Kit has a pair of 2.3VDC motors that draw approx 60mA no load, stall at 130mA, and will run 60 to 212 rpm. Finished size is approx 3" long x 2" x 7/8" with dual 1-1/16" long x 1/8” dia hexagonal shafts.

Tchotchke Display Base
A great display base for those extra-special tchotchkes, usually glass or crystal, that benefit from oscillating red, yellow and blue LEDs flashing up from beneath them. This black-plastic base with Chippendale-ish feet is 3” square x approx 2” tall, with a 2” square top. The top is a clear-plastic grill with the lights and a diffraction sheet under it to give it an iridescent effect. You add (3) “AA” batteries.

No, no, we mean actually cool, as in no heat and no laminating machine needed. (In fact, you can't put them in hot laminators.) You get three 5-packs of clear, 2-1/2 x 4" sleeves (1/2" bigger than business cards) for a total of (15). Made to be used with a Cool-Seal Laminator, but you can just slide the card or paper inside, and press together or put in a book for few minutes. Trimmable after sealing.

Really Wheely
Just imagine what you could do with this nifty pair of 3-volt motors (our each is a set of 2). The motors, each of which draws 700 mA and spins at 1,000 rpm, are in white-plastic housings 2-1/2" thick x 2-7/8" dia OA, and are connected by a 15" wire harness with a battery contact and a high/low/off switch. Peeking out from each housing and driven by each motor is a soft, black-rubber wheel 3/8" wide x 3/4" thick x 2-1/2" dia. Think toy race track, and spin out from there!
