Graticulated Magnifier
It is too a word. But never mind, this is a honey of an LED-illuminated, 8X magnifier with a 7/8" dia lens (ignore the 1-1/4" on the box) with an adjustable focus and a 10mm reticle marked in 1/10mm increments. Measures 1-13/16" tall x 2-7/16" wide OA with a 1-9/16" dia lens housing. Powered by (3) replaceable, and included, button-cell batteries.

Return with us now those thrilling days of the 17th century, the predigital world when things were more interesting, and more tasteful. This version of G.G.'s thermometer is the most elegant we've seen, with no bright, discordant colors spoiling the science. It's a simple, 11" tall, clear-glass tube on its own 2-7/16" dia base, with (5) globes full of opaque white fluid, and plain silver tags, floating inside. Globes run from 64°F/18°C to 80°F/26°C in 4°F/2°C-degree increments. Includes instructions and a silver plastic sleeve that slides over the cylinder to give it a more 21st century look, but we'd skip that. Ruins the aesthetic.

Call it the sound-sensitive pentaneck oscillight. The black 3-1/16" dia base holds (5) slim, steel goosenecks that terminate in translucent white ping-pong-ball-like globes. Inside, multicolored LEDs blink on and off in a random color pattern or to match the beat of the music, or your tone of voice. Has sound-sensitivity settings in case it's not as sensitive as you like. Awfully nice on a table or sound system, but could also be adapted as part of a very special hat. You bring (3) "AAA" batteries to the party.

Lens In A Lens
Our cornucopia of Foster Grant® 2X magnifiers all have small, circular 5X lenses imbedded in the larger glass, because sometimes we all need help from a higher power. The lighted magnifier has a 3-3/16" dia acrylic lens with a 3/4" dia window and an incandescent bulb. Measures 8-3/4" long OA and you insert (4) "AA" batteries in the handle. The round magnifier has a 3-1/2" dia lens with a 13/16" dia helper, and measures 7-1/2" long OA. The square magnifier isn't; it's a 3-1/2" x 2" rectangle (so sue us) with a 3/4" dia higher-power lens inset and a light. Measures approx 9" long when opened, but the 4" handle handily folds away for storage. You add a pair of "AAA" batteries.

Battery Pack
Handyman special. You pick a battery holder to fit your project. The D-cell holder is an enclosed hard black-plastic case, 2-3/4" x 6-1/4" x 1-5/8" with space inside for (4) "D"s, designed to give 6V output via a 30" long cord with a 1/8" miniplug. (Originally made to power a tabletop fountain.) The C-cell holder is an open-top white-plastic tray, 2-1/8" x 4-1/4", into which you snap (4) "C"s for 6V output. Attached with a short lead is a 1" square box with a 1/8" jack and a slide-switch to control the power.

You pick from 1" dia discs 3/8" thick, or 2" dia discs 1/4" or 3/8" thick; or from 2" OD x 1" ID rings that are 1/4" or 3/8" thick; or 3" OD x 2" ID rings that are 1/4" or 3/8" thick. Note that the Thins (below) are 1/4" thick, and the Thicks (below) are 3/8" thick. Got that?
